Inspired by Doctor Who?

Learning that the development team is UK based, and being a massive Doctor Who fan myself, I was wondering if the Amphibian race was inspired by the Sea Devils?

You see, the Sea Devils were cousins, or an off shoot race of the Silurians, living deep beneath the sea rather than underground. During their second and final appearance in 'Warriors of the Deep,' their style was heavily reminicent of fudal Japan.

no no.. its far more like Stargate than Dr Who in my eyes.

Dr.Who is way more to do with time travel. While stargate does feature 'some' time travel, Stargate is more about exploring planets with the specific purpose of 'upgrading' earth which is more like what you do in Starbound.

also, in Stargate they occasional get injected with new 'starmap' knowledge... its SO like Starbound :D

That may be the case, but Doctor Who does still have some linearity in the form of specific 'ages' which are frequently visited or mentioned. Plus, isn't UNIT just the SGC by a diffrent moniker and no Stargate? (They might have a stargate O_O )

Saying Doctor Who is mostly about time travel is a bit silly.
"All of time and space; everywhere and anywhere; every star that ever was. Where do you want to start?"

Oh, let's go to a few years in the past of Earth?+ It's not even always the Doctor's choice, Tardis keeps taking him to where he NEEDS to be, rather than wants to ;D

Well, in comparison to Stargate, which has less time travel, it would be :p

Then you have Dinosaurs in SPACE. Is that space or time travel?

At least one of the Glitch heads is a throw back to The Doctor.

It is pretty much bang on though. Doctor Who has always been about the "Monster of the week" and/or "This historical event in history of the week", with very few exceptions for plot development.

Doctor Who has lots of plot development, but that's usually left down to the arc of the series/season.

    Actually...

What on earth are we talking about? Stargate and Dr.Who.. lol... Starbound is SO Startrek Original lmao

Anyway, Time travel or no.. Dr.Who is a series about one person (being) SG-1 / Startrek are more about civilisations and societys

My first character on Starbound (before the wipe) was a Glitch with the Cyberman head mod.

    His name was Delete.

I'd agree, it's definitely a lot more like Star Trek since we are traversing space faster than light speed in a ship and teleporting down to planets.
