Insomnia49 Event Streams

Because people having opinions over what they feel a poor showing, is sad?
Ok then. Pretty broad definition for it there.

 

Perhaps half the crowd were there for the Yogscast Q and A. You know, fanboys and fangirls.

Anyway, something I noticed in the stream were how much trouble Duncan seemed to have with the crafting interfaces. Finding what thing crafts that and so on. I hope they change it into what Minecraft and Terraria currently uses, merely being close to the crafting tools, like the workbench, should give you access to their recipes.

 

Thing is, they didn't really show off any "cool new features" that Terraria didn't have. It's hard to build hype by only showing (for the most part) things that another, very similar game has already done. You've got your block building, your items you can grab and place as decorations, some mobs, weapons, and an item to summon a boss. Was there anything (Other than the original spaceship and having multiple races) that was shown that Terraria didn't have?

 

Also, I thought that "Let's Play"s were normally like a "First Look"?

 

Was this perhaps recorded somewhere?

 

I liked the stream alot. I liked all the tomfoolery and the initial exploration factor from people who have barely/never played the game. It gives good insight on what they should/shouldn't tweak, how progression works, initial strategy for bosses. Did anyone hear that cheer after they beat the UFO? T'was amazing.

One of the very few things that bugged me was how destructible the environment was to weapons and guns and such. I can see that getting out of control and used for griefing issues. I'm hoping they tone that down a bit.

 

If Starbound doesn't get attention from this, it isn't because the stream was "low quality" or anything like that. If it isn't uploaded to one of the Yogscast's Youtube channels, it likely won't even be seen by more than 5-10k potential customers. The only people watching this were the people at i49 and people who are already fans of Starbound (being the majority of the viewers), plus some stray Yogscast fans who somehow caught wind of the stream.

The Starbound devs chose Yogscast for a reason. They have already done showcasing videos, so if they were to showcase it they'd probably play it themselves, as they did yesterday.

You guys were expecting a showcase from Yogscast? When I first heard about Yogscast playing it, I heard it'd be a Let's Play.

Just because it wasn't what you expected/wanted, you shouldn't say it was a stupid thing to do/idea or just a bad decision to have Yogscast play (not showcase) the game.

I don't think I could enjoy Starbound at it's stage. It's too "raw". Gameplay seems shitty and repetitive.

It's one thing to say "I didn't really like this stream, I didn't feel it was representative of what Starbound is", it's another thing for some of the people acting like they are, especially on the Starbound subreddit.

 

On the contrary, he should pre-order it. He said "at it's stage", and they aren't releasing Starbound at the current stage.

 

I already pre-ordered it.

I just don't see how saying that the gameplay is shitty and repetitive is helpful/constructive. If you believe that, research as to what aspects of the gameplay are such, and if they are not being improved on over time, suggest that they are.

Sorry, a little annoyed from the people who are simply anti-Yogscast circle-jerking.

 

I quite liked the stream. I don't even really like the yogscast but they played it probably the way I'll play it with friends. Got to see a good bit of gameplay too.
