Do you think it's possible? Would you like this in-game?

  1. Nope, don't want it either!

    Picture this:

You're out in the wilderness of an alien planet and then you see a hulking brutish beast..IT CHARGES. and you run full speed in the opposite direction. A couple bullets from your retro revolver fail to phase this creature and you see your lab in the distance. you dart through thick foliage and through door shutting it hard behind you. Peering outside the beast emerges from the woodland and has not the slightest idea of where and which way it's prey has headed and it trots by your lab in hot pursuit for dinner.

Now, you're probably wondering what that all was about, well in a normal 2d side-scroller like, say, Terraria when the zombies and creatures of the night chased you they would stop at the wall of your house or door and jump continuously, head in the opposite direction or break down the door. In Starbound I'd think it'd be neat if you could see the mobs walking past your house if they were unaware you hid from them. These mobs that were outside of your lab or base would appear semitransparent and would go about there business in front and around of your house while you do whatever else in safety. Now there would be an optional occurrence of the mob/enemy saw you go inside and would break down the door or try to find another way in until it lost interest. While you're inside your house monsters can't see, with you and you can't target or interact with them.I for one would like the option to walk past my house/base and not have to open every door and go through every corridor.

Tell me what you think of it and if you think it would be possible for them to make this mechanic in-game.

That is a cool mechanic, much better than having the mobs jumping at your door.

Yeah and it'd be alot more serene seeing peaceful mobs walking/flying past your base going about there business. :)

It would be cool, but difficult to implement. But if the devs could do it and would be willing to, that would be awesome.

Upon re-reading it, I think it would actually be a lot easier to have them go behind your house as opposed to in front. This means that:
    1) They do not obstruct your view.
    2) They can be seen through windows in the background layer.

(But then again as I was writing this that may mean they need to add a whole new layer which really wouldn't be worth it...)

Yes although I'm not familiar with the technicalities of it; I believe walking towards your bases door the base should look like a solid object, thenyou could right click or press E when a button shows up to open it up and go inside and that would show all the rooms and compartments in the background. and you'd be able to interact with whats indside and also be un-harmed by what goes on outside and upon exiting the reverse will happen. :)

What I was saying is that when inside your house you'd be "behind all of the creatures and npcs outside, yes they'd probably need to create a housing layer for all the buildings on the planet. And you wouldn't need windows they'd all just be visible, maybe as silhouettes or semi transparencies.
