Input needed: How many planets...

I generally only visit one to three planets per sector for each character.
I stick with one or two solar systems as well.
Assuming that Sector X doesn't count, I don't think there's any particular sector I spend more time on.

 

1-3 planets depends what i need/find. And 1- 2 Systems.

Honestly? 2-3 planets per sector. I find a system with at least a forest and desert and get all the coal and ore I can possibly need from those two.

 

• Ship Navigator Changes: Still not set in stone; but the new idea is to give a local map with fog of war. Instead of sector buttons you have to fly out of a sector and into the next one by uncovering more of the star map. The final sector would be infinite.

Usually just 1 planet per sector until I get the ore refinery. That's when the game actually seems to "begin" for me. Until the refinery, I always feel my hard-won pixels are at risk, so I feel less inclined to explore the unknown. Plus, it seems to take about that long to accumulate enough coal to make any "extra" (read: non-boss-grinding) exploration practical.

I had one character that started in a single-planet solar system, which really hurt in that I had to leave my planet because of poison lakes and most of the trees were flower trees (fiber only), but that was definitely the exception.

Aside from that, I usually try to visit at least two solar systems per sector with more than 6 planets/moons each for maximum options in terms of exploration and potential. Alpha, like many others here, gets the most attention because it's the staging ground for many of my efforts in the future.
