Input needed: How many planets...

Hey guys,

I want to try to pull together some numbers that I think would be helpful for devs.


How many planets (on average) do you visit per sector before moving on? (avg. 6 [7 people])
How many solar systems? (avg. 1 [7 people])
Which sector did you find you visited the most planets in? (avg Alpha)

The aim of this thread is to get an idea of how much "space" each player uses.

If you think about it, each sector is essentially infinite, the only delimiter or difference between alpha planets and gamma planets is their difficulty and ore.

Do we need more than one infinite universe or is there a more compact system that still allows progression but doesn't feel like you are starting all over again but harder (and with more stuff you've brought along).

If this gets enough chatter I'll make a form and actually do some number crunching.



As a note: This thread is not to start a discussion about how many sectors there should be *yet*. This is just solid numbers so we have an idea of what the average is among players.

For me I visit about 5 planets each sector, across two systems with my biggest investment being in alpha just to get as much raw material as possible.

 

Me only 1-2 if that, just dig in the ground and you'll usually find everything you need. I found spending less time in alpha if possible is best, higher sectors seems to be more rich in raw resources.

 

Ten to fifteen, roughly.

The first.

 

I visit about 2 planets in a sector then move on, 1 sector with all the tiers in would feel better personally than a sector for each tier-ish. Would be less dragged out, following the same old pattern.

 

Between four and seven, usually. I've moved past a sector with less than four, but never more than seven.

One or two. That really depends on the size of the system: if there's only one planetary system in the whole star system, I might need to move on. That seems rare, though.

Alpha. I take my time in that first sector to gather up resources for later progression (extra iron, coal, silver/gold, etc.).

1: Each sector generally introduces a new planet type or two, so I visit those plus a few extra in search of dungeons in what, so in general maybe 6-7 planets a sector, more or less depending on the solar system I'm in.

2: One. Maybe two if the first one I wind up in is small and uninteresting.

3: Alpha, generally because it takes a while to "get off your feet" when you start the game and need to hunt down enough shit you need to take on the bosses.

 

I generally look for one solar system per sector that has multiple planets on it (5 or higher) and has a new planet type I haven't been to (multiple if I can). and then I go to maybe three of them before I have everything I need to move onto the next sector.

I spend the most time in Alpha, digging down deep and getting all the ore I need to carry me through the other sectors quicker.

havent moved off my planet yet hahaha. but i do intend on visiting as many planets as possible

 

Please by all means add away, just because you may be an outlier doesn't mean you aren't contributing meaningful data!

As an update: having read what chucklefish is planning on doing with universe traveling/sectors, I doubt any analysis of the data would be meaningful. But if people are still interested I'll keep the form open.

 

Well I never count them but I'll try. I am an explorer and I love this aspect of the game so
I've been for 12 hours in the first sector, 5 hours in the second and than it went on and on 5 hours roughly in each sector.
That would make average of 10 - 15 planets for each sector
and about 5 solar systems, I never explore the whole solar system, sometimes only 1 planet in each.
I've spent the most time and explored the most in Alpha sector.
