Info About Whats Left to be Done in the Game Released

Well there goes my hope for a next month release. The roadmap is going to be good though, it's going to give us an idea of when the game will be out now.

 

It was something to do with the name of the game, there was a legal dispute. If I find info it I'll post a link. Its resolved now though (as far as I know).

 

I can see Starbound being released in Q2 and possibly Q3. It still has some polishing to do. I've seen gameplay vids and I agree that it's scratchy, but good. Tiy is amazing for giving us so much info though.

 

Not trying to complain, but I thought they were farther. I do hope the beta is out somewhat soon, like a month and a half or something. It does seem like they are putting a TON OF STUFF in the game. I like that.

 

I'm glad to hear the roadmap is still going to be a thing, I was afraid they had dropped the idea/folded it into the newsletter.

 

I wonder how their progress on the main story is. If they scrapped the idea of a major storyline, they should at least have a final boss or something. I quickly lose motivation to play a game if there is nothing ahead that'll keep me motivated to play. I do not wish to leave a game thinking, "It was good for a while, but it got boring." I would like my experience to end with a blast.

 

There was a lawsuit over the starbound name or the emblem dont remember which but anyway chuckle fish got it handled like the responsible folks they are but one of the conditions of winning there legal dispute forced them to go public

 

so basically we still have like a 5 month wait... gotcha

 

Which would make it May 8th?

Man, the release is getting closer and closer.
But still, I have no coding knowledge and have no sense of time for getting things done in TERMS of coding.
So, yeah, that may be quite an optimistic.
...
Oh, and plus there's pre-order beta still happening too and who knows how long the beta will last.

 

Personally, I really like this kind of information and actually find it far more useful than an estimated date since it provides us with

1. a better idea of the scope of tasks they have remaining (a lot of the NPC things do not sound trivial, and I wouldn't be surprised if any of these systems required more than a month on its own), and
2. "these are the gaping holes you'd have in the game if we released it right now."

Of course, it does make it more difficult to announce the features and generate excitement, so I'm not inclined to ask them for stuff you usually only have to show your publishers.

But I am also a TOTAL GEEK FOR STARBOUND so

Well based on they fact that they still have a good amount of things to get done, and depending on when they work, it should only be a few more months is my estimate. I just want them to release the game when it's as complete as they feel. And I REALLY hope they don't release it during finals week >:[

 

I wants. But to be serious, this is very good news, as the worst is mostly over. Still a lot to go of course. I keep forgetting that I joined two months ago, and how things progress. Things seem to be really shaping up though. This is a game I definitely want. I don't care when, as long as it's before I die.

 

Have you ever developed a full featured game before? do you know the amount of man hours involved to make a good one? I have and I do, and your expectations are wildly unrealistic.

That being said... thank you Tiy for the update and I will continue to ATTEMPT to patiently await the only game i am lookign forward too this year... but if you guys take your time, im sure it will be awesome. FYI if you wanted my guess, I'd say September/October ... but who knows.

 

I have a good estimate, IMO, based on the previous things these devs have done.

September/October sounds way out of place, even when I try and be pessimistic.

 

I think your estimate is pretty early, the things they are implementing sound like a lot of work. they haven't even got the beta or the roadmap done. I think it will be a lot longer than that. Just my 2 cents.

 

It seems to me that keeping open to the community about your development process is a double edged sword... while 90% of the community has common sense and understand that thigns take time... that 10% can just ruin your day, every day...

 

Unfortunately, I think you should prepare to be dissapointed. Cuase there is a very good chance you will be.. and if not.. well we both win.

 

And the 10% are very loud and talkative.
