Ah, the revolver. An elegant firearm, especially those of the single-action variety. I sincerely hope that, regardless of weapon level, that every shot uses 1/6 of the player's energy bar. Heh, I just gotta add to my personal todo checklist to find the coordinates of planets for the cowboy costume (or wait 'til the Novakid content gets added and find a Novakid clothing vendor).

Hmm... it'd be kinda interesting if the Novakids started with a damaged revolver instead of a broken sword, but we're not at that phase of the beta so it's probably best not to think about that now.

I didn't notice anything about that teleporter bug (The one that causes you to have to keep trying the teleporter until you manage to get to the planet), but I have hope that you'll fix it!

Since it's a wipe, it will be gone.

But they may still drop holliday spirits.. Though it should be disabled for now and re-activate next holiday.

Don't get me wrong here, but I believe you should rethink your point of view on that topic.

really? Other people still have fun building bases, labs, villages. Don't you think it's your own fault not being able to handle the fact you can't keep a base forever ---at this state of the game---?

Okay. Tell me. Why it should be the first priority? And also, how do you know if this could have been even possible on an earlier state of the beta? If you know how to do things better than the Devs, why you're not a game Dev yourself? Programming is hard work.
Do you even know why wipes had to happen?
Do you know what "no more wipes" could mean now to further developement of the game? Maybe because of "no more wipes pls!"-complaints some things won't be able to be implemented anymore/not implented as planned?
Things you've should have asked yourself before being upset.

I'm pretty sure the Devs are well aware that people love their characters and bases and that none wants to lose their stuff. But wipes aren't meant to make us sad.

Sorry, but you're wrong. The last resort as you say? So you already know they're not doing this because they are mean... but it had to be done.
Also, being told "okay, expect your characters, ships and bases being wiped at some point" and STILL playing the game even if you can't handle it when it happens and STILL being upset about it when it happens, is your own fault.


Okay, enough with blaming everything on you now. Personal note.
I see your point actually.
I always put a lot of time and effort into my bases. Like. really. Also I'm getting pretty easily attached to my characters in video games. I'm an artist and I tend to be also a fulltime roleplayer there and some games (like Starbound in my opinion) make it possible to play the game your own way, to play like the character can make own decisions and "grow". I try to CREATE something, even if it's just for myself. Artists and roleplayers usually love their creations very much.
So wiping/deleting/seeing them die is something horrible when it happens... So I didn't dare to play the game until... november? December? I don't know anymore. But once I did -even I got my characters wiped once- it was already totally worth playing. It really amazed me and it's still sooo much fun!

Although I believe you're not complaining just because you love to complain, but rather because you actually put effort and blood, sweat and tears into building and CREATING your base and take the time to actually farm pretty things with your character for hours and hours. Maybe you love your stuff just as I do.
But in this case we were told at the very beginning of the beta/early access that "WIPES ARE EXPECTED ". I'm sorry. Really. I don't want you to feel bad, but it was clearly stated on the website. And before launching the game. Beta1. Early Access.
Wipes: It was done before, even announced IN BRIGHT RED COLORS on the first screen before launching the game. BRIGHT RED COLORS. RED. CAPITAL LETTERS.
Just a friendly advice: if you can't handle it, then wait until the beta doesn't require any wipes anymore so you won't get sad/angry about the game.
Or don't get too attached to your characters and the stuff you're building at this state. Toy around with things, try something new until the wipe-issue will be fixed. Don't play "just as usual". There are better ways to handle this and to not get yourself hurt by wipes'n'stuff. Don't get me wrong, but being upset all the time because of bugs, patches, wipes and so on, could damage your ability to feel joy again while playing.
Your point of view matters a lot there. Change it, if it bothers you too much. Find a solution for that.


Also, a fresh new start for a character can be something good... for the characters and for yourself. If you're still crying because you lost your last base and "don't want to enjoy the game anymore because OF MEAN!", how do you know you couldn't build an even better base than the last one? How do you know you won't find even better blocks, furniture and stuff in the next patch?
Give it a try. If you're not trying it again you won't know what things you might have missed.

And there's still plenty of time to use your current base:
Make screenshots of everything and rebuild it after the wipe. Once you've done it once, it's not that hard anymore. Take screenshots and use them as something like a blueprint.
Why not making a video of your base and uploading it? Impress the community with what you've build. So it will last like "forever" and you didn't build it for "nothing", you know? People may remember YOUR base in particular because it was something truely amazing? Maybe you can inspire people with that. Wouldn't that be great? Some weeks ago I saw a screenshot of a custom ship looking like the TNG Enterprise- this was EPIC and I'm sure I won't forget that so soon. Mollygos herself linked the picture in one of her tweets!

So, is your base already perfect and ready to be captured on video or is there still something it really needs before it can be considered as finally finished? Think about it. You still got like... 4?5? days I suppose to finish and take videos and screenshots.

Also, why not trying some mods to toy around while waiting for the next wipe? This is fun and can really help you to make your current base even better... so you can rebuild a better base after the next and last, wipe.
(Hinthint: and why not trying some mods after the next patch like the creative mod/industrial mod so you can rebuild your base even faster? After that, you can leave it that way, you're not forced to use any of those tools for progressing so you can continue with regular questing and exploring!)

I meant to also include, thank you for your input and suggestions. You make lots of valid points, all of which are very helpful. I to am an artist, so I completely understand where you're coming from. We do tend to invest ourselves just a little more, don't we.

does building bases and even villages give some kind of advantages? do NPCs settle down? trader or else? or are these buildings just a special kind of decoration. empty and of no real use for the depths of gameplay?

Greetings to you, as well!

There are many advantages for having your own base of operations or village. Crafting in a secure location is one, hiding out from enemy monsters is another. You could also build your own farming location in your base, to meet your hunger needs. Your imagination is the limit. I suggest you go to the General Discussion area, in the Starbound forum, for more details. This thread is mostly for patch notes related discussions. I hope that helps.

Um, I hope its not the final world wipe because i want you guys to keep adding new biomes....and new things to see etc. The spaceship dungeons........ the PLANET SIZED... spaceship dungeons.

 

They made Promises on the Ships and Characters. Not on the World! So you can hope that there will be your PLANET SIZED Spaceship Dungeon in the Future!
