Info about the upcoming patch!

Hopefully Ship Upgrading/editing will be added before next week, but programming is hard work so no biggy if it isn't still loving the game

 

"Also, this patch includes a character wipe" is simpler way to interpret that line than "Also there will be another patch, and it's that other patch which includes the character wipe".

Except when there is a reason to do otherwise, statements should be read in the simplest and most straightforward way possible, rather than try to assume they imply something extra. See Occam's Razor.

 

So still no keyboard remapping...

 

The Glitch have an option to start with no clothing, but they do not wear underwear. Still, that might be where you saw it.

 

Actually, that exists in Starrybound.

 

I like the ability to use a character both in single player and multiplayer, because multiplayer is more uncertain as to whether your stuff will remain ungriefed. How it is, I can make my bases on a planet only I can access and store things there.

 

Just so you are clear on this. - THIS Patch right here on this Page is the LAST Character/Ship Wipe. - No Promises on the World though. - There's nothing else that has to do with whipes or anything. - I hope you got it this Time pal

Hallo players and STARBOUND lovers out there.

To avoid any misunderstandings I want to make clear that my following question is really based on serious interest. So...

...what are you playing and where do you draw the fun and entertainment out of it? I would like to know how that works for you.

I am asking because for me it seems useless to invest hours for hours to play this hollow shell, which I think STARBOUND is at the moment and still will be after the forthcoming update. because there is no real content or story which makes your acting kind of meaningful, all you can do is without any meaning in the sense of a bigger plan. The lack of real game content makes it some kind of senseless for me. Just building to say I am building?

How do you feel about that point? Thanks for sharing your experience.

 

I used to play with legos, so... yeah

 

I enjoy exploring underground following my own impulse, and finding unexpected ruins or riches by procedurally generated accident. I also enjoy finding villages, and enjoying the writing work that has already been put into those peripheral characters. It's true that I'll be even more excited when there's a story I can follow, but that doesn't mean I can't have fun with what's already here.

 

Same here. I came back to waiting for Terraria 1.3 and Hearthstone...
Then again i know why you shouldn't thrust to much crowdfunding systems...

you're tapping on a problem/ philosophy much larger then starbound itself. We're all playing 'just to say we're playing' essentially.

Video games by nature are utterly worthless. They're a time sink. In small doses they're entertainment to pass boredom, and in larger doses can destroy your life. No action in any game is ever meaningful, because it's all fake anyways. We're all playing for numbers and data and entertainment. As this and many other games illustrate, all it takes is a 'wipe' and every trace of your e-xistance is gone. It goes for every headshot in a shooting game to any block you place in minecraft. It's all fake dude. So why even ask or bring this up? No game has any real content, and no game has any meaning. Games, by nature, are senseless. This isn't a problem the devs of Starbound can ever solve. So shut up and play, or shut up and leave. Pick one.

 

Great with an update! Means I have about a week to finish what I've been planning for my race mod...

Is there any new tools (like _merge) for us modders? There are still limits to _merge that is making it a tad hard adding in stuff as, most of the times, you would be making other mods unable to load. For instance modifying a custom plant to spawn randomly on the surface of biomes, can not be merged into the forest.biome file.

Oh and if you could extend the ?replace to work on objects ... that would make my life a lot easier!

Last update were no charachter wipe either, but all stuff i had on my ship were gone.. so since that update i've put all my stuff on my charachter since..
I am glad, after this update then I can put my stuff that I find back onto my ship for keeping safe )

 

Remember, only your Ship and Character Counts for this, your World might still be wiped, so don't go around hording all your Stuff on a Planet

 

I can't wait for being able to sell stuff.

 

I would like to be able to repair (craft) the broken weapon you start off with, would be nice to use a weapon actually belonging to your race.

what if i'm not an alien and cannot hit wasd at the same time with, say, number 9 using my left hand? what if i want to? i'm not even talking about binding bandages/grappling hook yet, just let me bind the very basic controls to something that makes sense.
