permadeath sounds a little reminiscent of the dayZ concept (not played it so forgive me if im wrong just going on what i read) which could well have a following
i think i will end up with a few characters 1 for each mode then as i get more experianced at playing i will start to delve into the harder areas of play

I reckon something you should get, is say when you open the craft window or whatever window, and you drag it over to some part of the screen, lock it, so whenever you open it again it is where you last left it, i find its annoying that i can put it in the side, then it as soon as i warp or die or whatever it is back to the middle again

I don't think they changed from that UI, I believe that was a mockup someone in the forum created shortly after the beta release.

Once this update hits, I'll be back playing the game now that there won't be any more character wipes. It's plenty of fun even with character wipes but I started getting attached to characters so it was hard to play knowing they'd be destroyed.

When the full game comes out, can we play as that other class? The one that people who preordered the game are supposed to get? I thought there was another class, the weird people who look like they are made of like, energy stuff...Can't figure out what they are called...AH! Novakid! That was it.

    Hello!

I got a question regarding the patch.

When I'm using YouTube while playing Starbound, youtube laggs like hell (unwatchable actually) and the game slows a bit down aswell.

(You can skip this paragraph for the TL;DR -fans) I tried several things like minimizing youtube, changeing the games size (because it runs better when it's not fullscreen/maximized), changed from Windows Vista Style to Classic Style on desktop theme (but AERO wasn't enabled before, btw. Just the Vista Style without that aero crap), tried several compatibility changes... and nothing actually works. I love having a video in the background running to listen to, but unfortunately this is highly unpleasing in this case. I never had this issue before, just with starbound. I'm very picky with the games I'm playing and Starbound is currently my absolute favourite, so I spend a lot of time there. The games music is beautiful, really, and I really love it but having just the game music running while playing for hours and hours is... you know what I mean. Nothing's wrong with the games music but I enjoy voices a bit more while playing, so youtube comes in handy while playing, although my PC is about 5 years old now and somewhat slow anyway. Oh, and my bandwith is really slow, too. So no videos at all while playing SB/Terraria in multiplayer mode, but that's okay for me! But I never had issues with having a video running in the background/minimized while playing games, so it must be starbound I'm afraid...

So. I read something about lags and memory issues fixed by the next patch- will this also cover issues like I'm having with other applications running?

Like all other stretch goals, that won't come until nearly the end of development.

Hyaziha - I've had this issue with certain games in the past if those games are video card or even processor intense. One thing that sometimes works for me is running the game in windowed mode. Though, you may just have to wait until they further optimize the game for multi-applications to get smoother.

    It works for me.
I've been struggling forever to get my Optimus setup to work with Bumblebee, and I'm still having problems (can't-move-can't-quit grade problems) with the input and Steam overlay (the fact that I need to switch the keyboard layout to play/chat because of my non-QWERTY keyboard doesn't help) but other than that the game itself runs about as well as on Windows.
    I'm using Fedora 20 on a Core i5 / GTX 670M laptop if that's any help.

    Back on-topic: Yay! News! :D
Keep it up guys, you're awesome!

    Still no hotkey support?

    COME ON.

Can't you at least give us some kind of hotkeys editable in a .config file in the game folders? This would obviously be trivially easy. I don't need one more pretentious kid here to ask my qualifications to say that. You don't know what you are talking about if you think it's hard.

They already have the groundwork in place to read variables from a config file. For numerous parts of the game. It would be an extremely easy and trivial bit of work to just add hotkeys to that.

This is a big issue to some of us. Just parroting "AUTHOTKEY" at us over and over is not a solution. It's a bandaid fix. It was acceptable on release. It's rapidly becoming less acceptable. MODIFIABLE HOTKEYS ARE IN INDUSTRY STANDARD AND IT'S EASY TO DO.

When you remap your keyboard with autohotkey, trying to search for things on the crafting menus is problematic because you end up typing the completely wrong things due to the remapped keys. Have you guys even tried it? You want to find something, but you have to go and STOP the script, search, and restart the script.

    It's BS.

Autohotkey also misses keys and causes keys to stick. OFTEN. You are running around trying to do things and keys stick and you have to fumble around to get them unstuck, while fighting. Or menus open up when you don't mean to, because autohotkey missed that key remap and let the original key through.

IT IS NOT A PERFECT SOLUTION. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

This is not so hard to do damnit. You already have .config files that read variables into the game. It would take almost no time at all to add hotkeys into that mix.

Why do you guys stubbornly refuse to acknowledge this at all? Do you have some arrogant belief that WASD is the only valid control scheme? Absolutely no concern that this is such a big deal to some of us?

Are you just trying to spite us? Do you take us for granted at this point? Having given you the money, who cares if our gaming experience is horribly broken for months before you finally do something so simple to fix it?

It completely destroys the experience for me. I'm sick of running around and trying to fight things, and autohotkey sticks and I am moving the wrong direction or freaking menus open that I didn't want to open.

it's INFURIATING especially when WE KNOW THIS IS A VERY EASY THING FOR YOU TO ADD VIA .INI/.CONFIG FILES.

You don't need to wait for the perfect, pretty little in game menus to do it. That can come later. AT LEAST GIVE US THE MEANS TO EDIT HOTKEYS IN A CONFIG FILE.

I'm sincerely starting to regret having pre-purchased this game. The two biggest obstacles to my enjoyment of this game are routinely overlooked and ignored.

    WE NEED HOTKEY SUPPORT.

AND WE NEED YOU TO FIX THE BUG THAT CAUSES SOME OF OUR MICS TO STOP WORKING.

It's not easy to do and we're already working on it. The suggestion that it's not out yet to "spite" you is beyond absurd and not a notion I'm willing to entertain.

You need to chill out, it's an early access game.

Being a little harsh don't you think? It's almost as if this game is in... beta *gasp* Also, did you not see the update about them being able to push out daily updates? This update is a huge code restructuring and quite frankly, you're being unreasonable. Let the people work. I don't see you creating an excellent game that has already sold over a million copies.

EDIT: I'm shocked and impressed that Tiy was even willing to entertain your little outburst. *thumbs up*

Looking forward to the new patch, I am greatly pleased that as of right now I can sorta..... play starbound lol. I do see slow down a bit but the lag much, much better than before so I'm glad to see it worked on. I have a low end labtop so for quite a long time I haven't been able to play which is ..... disappointing however it's a alpha... I mean a better so it's to be expected keep up the good work guys! :)
