I feel like people are also forgetting that once the game is out, they can continue to work on it, and can continue to write new quests for the cycle, thus insuring nobody gets bored. With such simple graphics, and the coding they seem to be using (tiy described it as very easy to manipulate and change, or add things), I don't think we have anything to worry about in terms of the missions getting stale - so long as they keep the game updated, and add new fresh things/events.

...and mods...even just mods that add missions or mission procedures to generate.

If they're careful this would be a nice system.. However, from memory, it was abysmally boring in Skyrim.

Like a lot of things in Skyrim in my opinion though :/ Bethesda games always look shiny and pretty on the surface but the innards underneath never really satisfy me for long. I'm sure that the Starbound devs could make the system more interesting though if there was enough random quests to choose from. Their 'save an npc from acid rain' one already sounds like it could be pretty good.

(Nice avatar and sig by the way, I loved those games!)

Yeah, it's a shame really -- Even the dungeons were designed to be an hour long each, crypt after crypt. Thankfully the Dev's on Starbound have more freedom here though, it wouldn't be anywhere near as complex to code in Escort Missions and similarily the Acid Rain quest. Actually, the entire Director Mode displays the power of the engine they have.
And thanks! I've actually been meaning to make a new set -- Or rather, to make the signature better.

Yeah, everything just seems too long and it takes far too much time to get everywhere. I could spend an hour in a dungeon and then not even get anything good from it.
They do seem to have done a fantastic job on what little we've seen of the Starbound engine so far though! I think Director Mode is more of an idea than actual hard code at the moment, but all their procedural generation is looking amazing. And yeah 2D has some advantages when it comes to coding missions, especially AI, seeing as everything only has to move in 2 dimensions!

They're still good though, particularly the avatar :)

Tiy said that each NPC will have various needs so I'm guessing they'll be infinite random quests

So long as I don't have to repeatedly kill green slimes, I'm good with quests.

Don't forget that level 100 planets will be a challenge for even the "endgame" stuff/equipments and all.

...at least that's what Tiy said.
