Feedback Infinite Fuel Efficiency Bug?

    A mechanic on my ship has been working on increasing the efficiency of fuel by 10% for quite some time now, and it turns out that they've actually managed to make it cost 1 fuel or less to travel anywhere in the entire Starbound galaxy. No matter the coordinates, whether it's (0, 0), (-9999999, -9999999), (9999999, 9999999) or the opposite coordinates of where I am now, it takes 1 fuel. If it's a neighbouring galaxy I think it might even be 0 fuel.
    I don't want to ruin my 1 fuel per trip deal here, but is this a bug or is it intended?

    I wish I could reset my fuel efficiency as well, it makes me not even want to play the game anymore. I tried to send them an email about it since it's not really a bug I suppose, but I doubt they check their discussions about it much. I think it ruins the game and defeats the purpose of even having to get fuel ever. They might as well remove the fuel system and moons if you can do this.

    No, this is design as intended but, with the oversight that some players will take it to the extreme. Never underestimate your player's ability to spoil their own fun :p

    I suspect we will see this 'fixed' in short order.

    It's not someone spoiling their own fun though. It's an inevitable result of having an Engineer crew member

    How is this runing your game? The only change is that you don't have to get more fuel to a moon/buy it whenever you want to go faraway. And even in my last playtrough (40h+) without engineers I only needed to go to a moon to get fuel 2-3 times, and no more than 5 minutes each time.

    I do agree it needs some kind of nerf, although I think engineers should still be powerful ways to reduce fuel consumption. Maybe 10-20% less fuel used per engineer?

    That's a pretty shallow reason to stop playing the game.

    I do agree however that there should at least be a cap for fuel efficiency. I think a max of 25 or 50 should be pretty acceptable.

    Honestly, I'm pretty happy with not having to mine fuel right now, the erchius ghosts aren't very familiar to me right now and it's a lot of effort. Having a % amount per engineer on your ship would be pretty cool, and should you actually find 10 engineers then I think you've earned fuel efficiency at max.

    As a designer, you have a plan on how you want to connect all the dots of fun so, that the player enjoys them all. Many times oversights like not capping the engineer's bonus occur and instead of staying on the road that has been curated for the player, they notice these little, unintended shortcuts and see all the shiny new fun dots that the designer was intentionally trying to hide behind that hill so, the player skips the hill and all the fun dots that the designer wanted them to enjoy there. It's a clunky analogy but, I hope you pick up what I am laying down.

    This has me wondering now: is there a cap on fuel capacity from the mechanics? It's going to start causing graphical issues with the fuel interface if it's not, and if it's stored as a smaller data type will eventually have overflow problems.

    I'm glad they made it so you can spend 0-1 fuel to travel anywhere. This game was extremely challenging, and I really needed that for my casual ways.

    Can we also make all the monsters passive? They should do 0 damage too and challenge rooms should give us the prize if we fail anyway. (sarcasm)

    Also, can we reduce the price of crafting a flag? They should be free or cost 1 lumber and a plant fiber.

    Huh, I actually hadn't paid much attention to my engineers (yeah, plural. I ended up with TWO of them). I figured it was a flat & constant %10 extra efficiency, I didn't think it'd continually stack like that. Awesome.

    Yeah would add a reason to have more than one engineer. I have FIVE of them.

    At one point I had four engineers, and it now costs me exactly ZERO fuel to go anywhere I want. So, yeah, seems like there should have been a cap on fuel efficiency upgrades.

    Those engineers should really get a patent on whatever it is they did to everyone's engine they would be richer than someone who used pixels to upgrade to condor class
    Anyhow it is over powered and needs to get changed since it makes everything from moons to mechanics obsolete
    I believe the maximum fuel cost by default without any engineers (ex going from 99999999999999,999999999999 to -999999999999,-999999999999) is 50 fuel
    EDIT; the default max is 500 not 50

    Used to be 1,000 and is now 500. Never was not will be 50 As a default.

    I personally believe a 50% cap is in order, and that the calculations are based on 50% off be 0, 0% off being 100, and exponential decay for engine efficiency. Never quite reaching 50% efficiency, but always creeping closer.

    Getting fuel is not one of the fun chores in the game, but it is something you can buy and it may be the ONLY thing you can buy in endgame that has any value to you.
    By definition efficiency is how well you use a resource, so, if you are using no resource it is not efficiency - it is redundancy. The fuel is now redundant.

    Meh, unless they make moons more interesting then I would rather have it this way. You can easily collect like 500-700 fuel in a couple minutes just by running around the surface. I haven't even seen the ghost my last couple times fuel farming because of this and even still, that ghost isn't even that interesting. There's nothing to find on the entire moon besides fuel and the ghost, just kind of a pointless minigame to refuel your ship.

    Ores (for building blocks) and furnitures are far more interesting
