Incompatible with lower resolutions?

I kind of have a problem--for one thing, I have bad eyesight. For another thing, my monitor is NOT a wide screen, and thus it has to be set to the old fashioned more-square-like resolutions.

So my friend told me about this game and I boot it up, but everything looks absolutely horrid in my 1024x768 screen resolution--not to mention that the cursor fails to work correctly in windowed mode.

This is windowed mode, and my cursor is actually all the way over to the right-most edge of my screen, but that's as far right as the in-game arrow will go. In full screen mode, the screen looks notably awkward as well:

I've been told I can adjust some settings and stuff, but I apparently cannot access said settings from the title screen. I'll have to actually get into the game for that, and I'm not so sure it'll fix my problems. I don't want to adjust my screen resolution just to play ONE game, because that means I'll have to change the fonts all over my comp in order to read anything.

I really prefer a windowed mode as I tend to multitask a lot (okay so mostly it's IMing and stuff) and I suppose I could get by using that, but it kind of makes me sad that the game really doesn't like my screen resolution. :(

I run the game at 1360x768, and I am unable to milk cows/talk to pigs in the Deluxe Barn if they are all the way up by the trough which is quite annoying.

To get around it, I have to reduce the zoom clear down to 75% and then I can just barely interact with them.

EDIT: Anyways I asked for this thread to be moved to support because x768 resolution does have a "bug" with the deluxe barn that could easily be fixed by not locking the camera.

I didn't realize there was a support section, or I would have posted it there.

Skipped the cutscenes (couldn't read anything anyway because the text ran off) and got into the game. Seems the game's default resolution is 1600x1200. No wonder I can't play it. And the resolution option is grayed out as well, so I can't change it. :/

I tried to run the game in full screen and my monitor told me that the input was not supported. So bitterly disappointed.

The Resolution Option is greyed out because you're playing windowed, I believe.

And that's odd, because the default resolution for me, was my desktop's native resolution.

I tried looking for a config file, and the only one I can find (which is oddly enough dumped in VirtualStore) contains a "Startup Preferences" but it ONLY has Fullscreen True/False, but no resolution.

This'd have to be a feature we need to suggest: an editable .ini file that we can edit outside the game to tell the game what resolution to use for cases like yours.

EDIT: Are you trying to go to Fullscreen, or Borderless Window? Try Borderless Window. That forces the game to use the same resolution your Desktop is currently in.

I'm playing "fullscreen" (or at least, I hit the little box in the corner on the title screen.) But I guess the game is still considering that "windowed" since my resolution is so low.

Wish I could say the same about default resolutions:

Borderless Window makes it go into a fullscreen game where I cannot access anything outside of it... Something that has become a very severe inconvenience to me in the past few years, and is why I no longer play games like Sim City 4, even though I enjoyed them. The cursor problem is still there, but I think I can play this game with my Xbox controller.

I went ahead and tried putting it on the next resolution up, and I see the problem. This game was made for widescreens, and it seems to be twice as wide as it is tall.

A new feature to support smaller screen sizes would be very nice.

EDIT: I am now using 1152x864 resolution, and the cursor issue is still happening. I can't even get past grandfather's letter:

Odd. But yeah, many games nowadays are Widescreen-Only. Just like some early 2000s games were 4 : 3 only. (stupid auto emoticons)

EDIT: You know that Borderless Window allows you quick Alt-Tabbing, right? You can't watch what happens but you can easily alt-tab without minimizing?

That's sad. Wish I had known about this before I purchased the game. I guess from now on, I'll make sure to check and see if they're compatible with non-widescreens before I buy. If there's no fix for these issues, I guess I better look into getting my money back...

Just an aside.... why such a tiny resolution, and where did you actually get ahold of a 4 : 3 monitor? I didn't think they even made those anymore.

It's an older monitor that was specifically bought because I was running a Windows XP computer at the time, and having a wide screen with it meant that everything was stretched. I'm a digital artist, and I just cannot have that stretching going on. It still runs well and looks great, so I see no reason for why I should run out right now and pitch out another 70+ dollars for a new monitor when my old one still works perfectly.

And as I said, I have eyesight issues. Extremely high resolutions tend to drown everything in teeny tiny sizes and then I can't see anything.

If you have eyesight issues... the best thing you can do is get something bigger (I use a 27inch widescreen TV) and dial the resolution down to either 1360x768 or 1440x900 depending on if your monitor/TV is 16:9 or 16:10.

A TV/Monitor that large should give you plenty large enough font that you should read with ease, but yet play games perfectly fine.

That, and nearly every app nowadays assumes Widescreen....

I kind of knew it would eventually come down to this. There's never any support for the people who don't use the best of the best and most up-to-date technology. *sigh* Oh well, thanks anyway.

Eh, to be honest, Widescreen Monitors are at least 10 years old. 10 years in the computing world is like 50 years in the car world. Would you drive a 1950s car around if you could so avoid it by buying a cheap 1980s model? I doubt it. In fact, 1950s cars need special modifications or they won't run today (thanks to unleaded gasoline which was not around back in the 50s).
