i suggest that like in tf2 you can use your microphones and talk to each other in mulitplayer it would show a talking animation when you talk even if your doing other actions. it should be limited defiantly not past a planet like if the player goes out of your view the volume is significantly lowered and if they're a bit further apart you just here static. then you'd have to use your (phone/chat) to call them to either come closer or continue talking. there should also be an ingame item called a headset that both boosts your range and allows you to talk to specific people with your headset (they come in pairs). so if you dont want a whole server/group to hear you you can give them a headset and yous can talk in private. of course this should be optional what are your opinions
I like the idea of having in-game voice chat, but I don't think the headset item would work very well. This is because people could use a third-party voice chat program like Ventrilo, Teamspeak, Skype, etc. to overcome the minimum in-game voice chat range, therefore making those items obsolete. I think that if this were to be implemented, the voice chat should be server-wide, not planet-wide.
I'm not too fond of the idea, but that is my personal opinion. For this style of game, I think type-chat is perfectly adequate and that Ventrillo servers can be used among friends if necessary; I view it as something that not need to be supported in game. Cheers, ~Chitte
Maybe on a server there could be a specific item that you set to a frequency, and anyone else with that frequency could talk with you? maybe passwords for frequencies when the first person joins it?
There still should be typing tho.... But this speaking would be good for times when you are fighting a boss with a friend but don't have time to type so you just speak.... You know what I mean?
I personally don't see or feel a need for it. This is not an mmo. If friends wish to talk instead of type, they could use a program like skype. That way the people you are talking to is selective instead of people abusing the privileged to speak aloud.
Well if the game is on Steam then you could just have a group and all be in voice chat, same with skype. (but you would have steam anyway if your playing it.)
Yeah, steam chat kinda obsoletes that, but it wouldn't be a bad idea, just not needed within the game. as someone stated above, any implementation of a range or area limited chat system can be circumvented, and penalizes those who cant/don't do so. however.... applying these same ideas to chat based communications in some form may not be a bad idea.
People could just use steam chat, vent, etc. Wouldn't work. It doesn't even need to be a steam game. My friends and I use steam chat by just having it run in the BG while we play Diablo.
