I just want to say Thank you so far I am having a great time with Starbound and am really excited about what you guys have planed for future updates.

However let me just remind you I once read a quote on some forum " The vocal majority are always the minority " I hope it goes without saying that all of the people who have been complaining about updates or patches or whatever do not speak for all of us. You take as much time as you need at the end of the day this game will have your name on it so if you are not happy or need more time do what you have to.

This game is in beta its not done its not even for "sale" so just take all the hipster crybaby's with a grain of salt.

    ONE LOVE!

  2. Technically it is on sale, or else no one would have the beta. But you are right in saying that there are the lone few who aren't worried about an immediate update release, myself included, and the majority freaking out and venting with uneeded tantrums. We know the patch is done, we know it'll be out today or tomorrow, so why continue badgering the devs?

    IBTL.

How does one acquire this sense of appreciation & support you seem to be displaying? Clearly you must be lost. Right?

I would just like to point out that not all complaints are just 'children throwing tantrums.' Some of us are very concerned about the future of the game with so many missed deadlines and delays. I just want to see the game succeed and the progress grinding to a halt as it has is reason to be concerned. This attitude that seems to be prevalent of treating every complaint, of any level of composure behind it, as if it's coming from a place of entitled rage is also worrying. I understand it's the internet and people are very reactionary on both sides of the issue. I would just like to point out that not everyone who has a problem with the delays hates Chucklefish. I like the game, it's fun, I want to see it succeed and part of succeeding is getting things done in a timely manner. This is just one person's opinion after quietly observing things for a little while, take from it what you will.

How the hell has progress grinded to a halt? I wasn't aware that production teams couldn't commit to repo UNTIL you got your new patch. This is a really absurd line of reasoning.

As a developer myself, it's always kind of surprising that people don't really understand the process of developing a game. By the time you get your patch, the developers have already been working for hours/days on the next new patch. Things don't 'just grind to a halt.'

One of the reasons for the complaints is that people are loving the game and they want to play again. :)

I don't think that progress is grinding to a halt. This patch is being delayed because they made significant changes to the game and need to test it before the release. Maybe we won't get many additions, but there will be lots of bugs fixed and (probably) no more wipes.

I think the community crying out for updates is a a common theme among all of these "Early Access" games these days. The game sells a lot and the rapid changes that players see in the first few weeks grinds to a halt. It has happened over and over. And there is no legal way to combat this grinding halt. All I want to say is that the devs need to keep in mind that, we, as the consumers, expect a certain product by the end of this "early development" cycle. It's always tempting to slow down development because of the first few weeks' success but be reasonable and try to push out content and a more consistent, if not, a scheduled rate. It would relieve a lot of the stress between the players and the company.

Ironically it seems more common the more vocal the devs of a game are.

    1. Criticism is necessary in such a process, but people who wish to criticize should do so in a civilized manner.

    2. Chucklefish should realize they're dealing with the internet, and thus handle their communication with great care, if they wish to minimize backlash. If not, they should be prepared for a lot of tough love & hate. As long as they learn and improve from this experience, it'll be a worth while process.

    3. A bit more appreciation and support from the community wouldn't hurt anyone. It's not like we're dealing with EA and BF4 here.

IMO, Chucklefish shouldn't announce their deadlines, specific or not, unless they're absolutely confident they will meet them.

this. Ive seen some AAA game forums that rarely get any attention from the devs and the community happily accepts waiting up to a year for an update. The more the devs communicate the more likely the community qill be ready to rip them apart at the slightest delay.

This isnt even a delay, its a patch to a Beta. IMO they shouldnt even be giving timetables during development. This is beta, we should be on their schedule. Now when its officially released, i feel the tables turn and they DO owe us info on updates and patches.

I don't think this is even true.

Across these threads I see at least as many people trying to tell the folks freaking out to calm down, as there are folks freaking out. Plus you got all the people who just don't get involved in those arguments.

It's a very small minority being very very vocal, in my estimation. They need to, like, get some other games to play. And realize they paid to be allowed to play a game early and give suggestions. They have no promises on content except that they get the full game when it is released. Whenever that may be.

I'm guessing 2525, if man is still alive.

Well, actually it works both ways; there are extremists from political left and right. Though negative people tend to care more
for vocal appearance than the positive ones.

I´ m not mad at Chucklefish or something. But the fact, that someone made me even more keen on the game, just to see that the promised update is at least over a week delayed, is a bit needless. :chucklefish:

I like how you can get your posts deleted for complaining about the game but making a topic just to belittle the people who have concerns is A-OK.

Not all the complaints are, either. Relatively few, actually. There's more "hate" for the complaints than in them.
