How do you usually start off a drawing?

It depends, really. If there's something muddy like a hood that I'm not very good at, or a specific pose I want to try, I might look for a reference. As you can probably guess, my reference for TheBlocklander's was from AssassCreed, but usually I'll go with a simple body pose (lines and circles). If I'm confident enough to start without a reference, then I'll just sort of... draw it I guess, haha.

Short answer is the head lol. I always go top-down.

Also, I always have a sketch layer that I end up more or less tracing and deleting.

Also also, this is only for digital art. When I draw by hand I just draw stuff, so it's hit and miss whether it comes out good.

I always wanted to draw some scenes from the Starbound lore, but I don't have the time nor the skill required to do it. You can ask me some drawings too.

I could tryyy... but I'm ridiculously shit at backgrounds lol. As you can probably tell from my previous artworks. I just don't have the patience for... trees and stuff.. or whatever. Craggy mountains. Nature has so much damned tedium in it T-T

I always imagined things like human ships flying away from the tentacle threat on Earth, some Apex rebels killing a Miniknog leader, a Floran puzzled by the guitar of his last meal, a Glitch knight kneeling before his king...
(Yeah, it's quite a lot of things, you can choose the one you like, or propose a new one, Starbound lore is full of scenes of sheer [insert a specific emotion here])

 

I actually started drawing a Floran fighting one of the lore monsters once (something hare-like I think), but it's sitting in my WIP folder o3o
I'll give something a go! Not gonna decide yet because it'll be a while till I get to it, but maybe I'll be hit by a stroke of genius lol.

Goodness, lol. I can try, but you've seen what I do to Avali lol. I'll probably make it a static pose at least.

 

I'd recommend you just try making it look as similar to the official concept art as possible, that's the best way to make a good avali if you're not experienced with it ^_^

 

I always feel bad about that because they could just make themselves a recolour and it'd probably turn out better because they have the concept of their own char in their own head.

 

I didn't mean to make it similar in that way, I'm walking about the anatomy, Ryuu has quite a few concept art pieces of the anatomy from quite a few different angles, so you'll have some pretty good references to learn the anatomy from

 

Oh, hah that's true. The one with the shrinking is actually really helpful for anatomy. The thing that would help me the most would be a little drawing model, but I highly doubt it's availabe lol. Ah well, I'll make do.

[edit]Got the pictures! Here's Seednibbler. His auto-repair station is borked, so he's perpetually broken. It's pretty hilarious for me, but he's not very good at life in general. He's very awkward.

Pretty much forever. I'm very slow. All together it might take between 3 and 8 hours for one drawing, but I tend not to get more than an hour or two to work on them every day. Plus sometimes I need to be playing AssassBrotherhood for reasons of . Also it's my boyfriend's birthday soon and I'm drawing for him, so I'm on a sort of mini-hiatus till next week o3o
