If You Missed the Stream from 7/23/2013

This style of singing just sounds really really bad. It might be much better off if it would be humming instead of a garbled mess of chipmunk speak. The way their audio engine for the instruments seems to work is with only stacatto notes, combining that with singing which naturally is fluent and has vibrato is a recipe for disaster. The instruments sound okay, decent enough for a game like this but the singing just makes the whole band thing sound bad and needs some serious work.

 

Why does it sounds so... French?

 

Think that they should host a server and we should all go on and have a massive, like, 100 man concert performance

I see all this "music" stuff a waste of time IMHO, i look at it like an extra, but not part of the development of the game,the time youre wasting on this, could be more efficient if you spend your spare time relaxing, or making "serious" things for the game.

I don't really like the music feature either, but the devs seem to enjoy it quite a bit, and I love that! Let them do fun stuff once in a while.

 

really, this music feature is the least important feature in all of history. get the game done in the first place. then you have time to play around. i dont get it ... a shit load of time behing schedule, but we play music ...

 

I would say it doesn't sounds that bad, but vocals are pretty annoying. As a secondary thingy of the game in an early stage it seems that can be improved a lot. I wanna show vocals of Final Fantasy VI wich were pretty amazing for those times.

 

I get what you are saying and would agree (like I would want to see more mini-biome work, ship creation, vehicle procedural generation, climbing mechanics for mobs and players, or even space combat, ect.); except if you look at the daily updates they are working on a lot of stuff. It isn't like they dropped everything to add music. The sound guys were probably bored since their part of the game is pretty much done and had time to add in music. Anything that gets the creative juices going in a game like this is a plus in my book. I would rather have devs love what they are doing instead of grinding to meet arbitrary deadlines as it will make for a better game in the end. This is chucklefish's flagship game and Tiy's baby. If I were him, I would want to change gaming history on epic-ness of my dream game.

 

I think the implementation of music in this form is a great thing but I really don't like the voices. I love to listen to the instruments but the vocals are horrible.

Love the music system, solo instruments sound great as do some of the multiple part songs. I used this system in LotRO and it was the same way, sometimes its how the song is transcribed into the ABC style that makes it into a mess. Singing does need more work though, it's not horrible but if we could get something similar to the video Shub posted it would be awesome. Though I think that might be pretty difficult to do.

 

Why is everybody criticizing it? It's not that bad, and you needn't be a jerk, going around like "They're wasting their time. It's terrible, and stupid." They enjoy it, and a lot of other people enjoy it. Stop being selfish - some people enjoy it, and it's getting put into the game. It's not a waste of time if it makes people happy, christ.

 

All these people complaining about features that they don't have to make use of.

The singing isn't bad. But how else would you guys have gone about implementing it then?
Could you go out and do what they did just now? Go on then, implement the singing in the way you imagine it...

The Instruments are great and the singing might need some work but it is far from terrible. I've heard worse from real life, so called 'profession' 'musicians'.

I'm sorry, but that's simpy not an argument. All the "if you don't like it, do it better" talk on the web is just pointless. That's not how the world works.
