If you could add a new resident to the town, what would their profession be?

I'm thinking it would need to be pertinent to the small town atmosphere. It may or may not extend the game mechanics (in the sense that Robin is both a character, and also the building creator/upgrader). A school teacher? (Though he/she would need pupils, Vincent is a whirlwind, and I'm not fully convinced Jas is human.)

Or perhaps a tailor? Except that I see this exclusively as (excuse the pun) window-dressing. No power suits. Literally.

Perhaps a delivery service guy/gal that for a fairly high fee brings you things you'd otherwise have to go to Clint or Pierre for? Or from the desert?

Over to you. Any and all ideas considered.

Teacher wouldn't work, as Penny is kind of that already...

Coffee barista? I live in a town of not quite 10,000 and there are like 6 coffee places around. Granted, some of that is because it's a college town, but a coffee place would be a nice place to relax and kind of a place to gather if you didn't want to go to the Saloon.

Aside of the already mentioned tailor, I'd think having an electrician would be important. Plenty of the houses have lights, computers and such, but there isn't any one NPC that'd be in charge of fixing anything electrical going wrong. I guess a plumber/handyman would work too.

On the more "fun" side, similar games to this usually had some sort of florist in town.

Innkeeper. For a town that supposedly has some tourism economy, there is nowhere in town to stay. I'll go one step farther and say the inn either goes in Joja Mart's spot when they close-- or if you side with Joja, Pierre is forced to sell out and the inn goes in his shop. I mean, if you let Joja win, Pierre's likely going to have to move sooner or later, anyhow. Sad, but, that's the price of letting The Empire drive the small local shops under.

Alternately, if you don't let /either/ side 'win', the inn could be the Spa-- keep the baths, lose the cavernous locker rooms, and make the whole place friendlier. Tourists could come in by train just to visit the place.

Nah. I want a veterinarian! Someone I can see coming from the next town over, helping Marnie and our farmer with the livestock, could deliver calves and goats and pigs, check the out. Be aroundy farm for our farmer to flirt with;)

I could also see a boutique owner who comes through once a season to buy the clothes someone makes;)

A Baker to buy things from, food and pastries.

A conductor to get more tourists into town off the train, with an inn up there too.

                Lots of nice ideas here.
I miss a postman/postwoman in the village. And poor Lewis he needs a shipping agent because he has to transport all the 1000s of items i grow on the farm at his age.
And some village patrol guy/gal who secures borders/streets or is hunting suspicious squirrels & slimes (though i think Marlon could be that, too).
Maybe some old war veteran from Gotoro Empire who is a deserteur now or was there with Kent.

Well, since CA has implemented Harvest Moon, i was thinking he get inspired from another game: Monster Rancher.

Your farmer now can breed a new type of monster which depend on its type would help buffing you in various task. I.e. wolf: foraging; golem: mining; caterpillar: foresting et cetera.

To breed one, you would need a slime egg. Then, using an ancient dwarf machine, you combined that egg, a catalyst, and various harvest items that result in a monster. The right combination of eggs and material will hatch special and unique monsters. I.e. king slime, don cat, baby chtullu, monkey lord..

The new npc will sell you various catalysts as well as new quests to gather required items needed to fix the machine. 8 heart relationship with various npc, including Maru, Demetrius, Dwarf, and Clint will be needed so they will help you with the repairing.

Maybe some sort of event coordinator. I think it would be fun to be able to plan annual events st your farm. Like a block party. The events are the same year in and, yesr out. Let's switch it up!

                      OR

maybe a trai. Conductor, a train is forever going through the town. Why not have the conductor himself or herself there. She could bring in" foreign" good. Kind of like sandy had in the desert.

A policeman and a police station, so if you pass out you wake up in a cell instead of home, and which could lead to a few 'whodunnit' style quests where you have to follow a series of clues to solve a plethora of crimes, however in the end it turns out to be *dun dun duuuun* mousiarty! Hat mouses evil twin all along!

A tailor would be nice, it'd be cool to have some sort of customization when it comes to clothes!
I wondered why there's no police in the town, but I feel it'd have little importance videogame-wise. Just another videogame logic kinda thing I guess
Also a stylist, if you want to change your hair, maybe have that and the tailor or something of the sort in the same building. Maybe a landscaper too? Like if you wanted to get rid of the pond and lake on your farm or something

Who knows, CA might be watching these forums with a pen and paper trying to get a little inspiration here and there, because character customisation is a brilliant idea! Have a thumbs up!

If divorce is really going to be possible in the future I'd like there to be a lawyer who can also offer child services in case you don't want to keep your kids.

Maybe a cop. I always thought it was weird how if anyone was being a total a-hole, there is no little jail to put 'em in for the night.

You know, I could really see this featuring in a number of circumstances. Clint maybe getting a bit too tipsy after a night drinking, needing to sleep it off in the cell. Or, for that matter, having a chance for the player character being found by the police instead of Jojo, and dumped in the cell until they awake.

Um, Small towns usually don't have the budget for their own law enforcement, or jails. They use the county or state officers to fill in. Then you have to go to the county or state offices for lockups and administration.
