You know the flashlights? I'm pretty sure they're very early-game items. You get some glass and craft it into a lens. Craft (or attach,I don't know if they're expensive/rare or not) the flashlight with the lens and voila! First possible laser. Low damage and slightly longer range than the flashlight by itself. It still makes light, but only in a straight line, not a cone.
yes, with different colors. diamond = white emerald = green sapphire = blue topaz = yellow quartz = cyan
Oh,right. I didn't think about that. I was thinking it would be more like burning ants with a magnifying glass than a true laser.
huh? why do you need a gem? a white light laser is still a laser i thought, or maybe the lens focuses different wavelengths at different angles so you have to block out other ones to prevent it from being a rainbow flashlight? (which isn't a bad thing...) anyway, a focused flashlight isn't powerful enough to hurt stuff, maybe to burn paper if you leave it on one spot for a few hours... but I think flashlights that you put a lens over to change the angle which it lights up wouldn't be bad, wide ones would be dimmer and less range and beams would be bright and far range that it lights up?
The first laser (and one of the most basic) used a ruby to help create it. Since this will be the most basic laser you can get, it would (kinda) make sense if you needed a gem of some kind.
Also, this could be used, in conjunction with all the basic gem types for lasers and some power station, to create a laser-show display! A painful one at that.
