Could you make all trees drop saplings so they can be planted elsewhere? This ice tree is one of my favorites I've found in the game thus far and I'd like to bring it back to my home planet. Unfortunately, it only turns to ice blocks when felled.
yes. This is some I would like to have, as not all trees, especially the "special" ones don't even have a seed or way to grow them. Tentacles included, as for some odd reason those drop wood... not that I would plant that latter one, but it is nice to have the option regardless.
I've also found crystal trees do not drop saplings. Taking a peek into the files, it seems that seeds dropped is based on the foliage. EG one patch of foliage = one seed. Since neither ice, tentacle, nor crystal trees have foliage, the game doesn't drop saplings. However, I have found sapling images for them in the files as well, so it's quite possible that this was a coding mistake and will be fixed.
My planet has some very nice palm trees which don't drop saplings. 'o( It's kinda sad that I can't replant them after I clear a space for my buildings. I hope this can be fixed!
We need trees that have seeds/saplings for them in game to properly drop their seeds/saplings. That is bug/glitch/mistake/oversight exists is horrible!
From a realistic point of view, being able to plant those is unrealistic. The IceSphere trees are frozen and dead, and will turn into ice-chunks when chopped. Same goes for Crystals and Tentacles. Plus I think that the Ice-Sphere trees actually have foliage (the branches and the sphere). I think the devs did this intentionally. Regardless, some way to create them, or at least move them would be much appreciated.
While it does look like foliage, in the game files it is counted as just part of the stem. And, again, I found seed sprites for the stems. Just not the foliage. I've also tested arid trees which lack foliage, and they don't drop seeds either. If the sprites are there, I don't think this is intended.
The eye trees drop Oculemon, instead of saplings. This is because the eye trees are merely ancient Oculemon plants.
That would be my assumption, and a nice change or addition. Dropping wood is a bit off at the moment. Don't know if still does in the current update, but that looks like a promising change if it does happen that way. Some metal trees still drop wood oddly though as well, which is not something I like, and hope gets changed as well to drop some kind of metal along with the seeds to grow them...
There is a specific tree that drops this I think. I do know that 1 of the metal trees do drop some sort of metal. i just don't know what it looks like. I only know the one that looks like smooth metal block is not the tree. Well that is if what I read is true. Lot's people post their update findings here and there... I haven't explored enough to see every tree yet, as that directory has a lot of base components for leaf & trunk. If a tree does drop that metal-coated wood, then it more likely is a metal tree I have not found yet...
I really support the idea of making ice-sphere trees drop seeds or anyway any idea that coudl let us create them in the place we need them. This could allow us to design more cutomised bases, "gardens", buildings etc. E.g. some kind of glacier themed buildings. (The same with "geometric" (?) trees that occur in snow biome sometimes)
Well, almost every tree in the game does have saplings in the games data, the saplings have just not been added as drops to the trees... We can all agree this needs to be changed, and that the Devs need to focus on this.
The metal trees are supposed to drop said wood. Like mentioned, everything is not yet properly implemented. All trees and tree-like things only drop wood as a result of complications the Devs have not solved yet.
there are vine trees, that drop fibre... that one I did see. So not all tree-like things drop wood. Besides I have only seen 1 type of metal tree, and that is not enough to go on. But I can sort of believe right now none drop metal, however I do not believe the drops are messed up since they are based on the two parts of the tree. The saplings are the leafy part and the wood/other is the trunk part. One reason palms only seem to drop 1 seed at a time, but then again that formula has been changed a couple time I believe. I can only hope still that things will work out in the end; I am patient enough. I just think it is the rates that are skewed, not the drops themselves. the trunk part I am sure does well enough. Also the ice tree is tree like, and it drops ice... but like others and you mentioned things are just not fully implemented yet...
