I love how people get mad when other people play games differently from the way they would. As if a different play-style is somehow "wrong". Oh, they acted childish? How dare they not take a GAME seriously? How dare they not focus on quests or exploring which is obviously the only proper way to play? How dare they not know every detail about the game like you, which obviously makes you better than them and more worthy of playing the game.

And how dare the developers not play? Maybe because they are only celebrities to the niche community that has already been following the game. Yogcast is recognizable to the broader audience that this game will eventually be marketed towards more and more. So stop acting like every playthrough has to be tailored to your specific interests. You sound like whiny, elitist pricks.

Not have had the appeal to the rest of the world? What are you talking about?

The reason we're so interested in the game is because we know more about what it really is the devs are creating and how it so far above and beyond Terraria. Why wouldn't you appeal to the audience at the event by having the devs show off what the game is really about? The demo didn't even touch upon randomly generated planets, which is one of the fundamental aspects of the game.
The only thing you're going to accomplish by being rude to people that don't share your opinion is to harm yourself and this discussion. It's not constructive or helpful.

They're already being rude to Yogcast and the devs so I don't really care.

Are the comments really all that baseless though? Voicing one's opinion in a place expected to contain discussion from both sides can hardly be considered rude as long as namecalling or such doesn't occur. Are people being rude to Yogscast? No doubt. Calling them whatever they may be calling them is perhaps a bit overboard. Is having and voicing suggestions and concerns for the devs rude? Not in and of itself.

I don't quite get all the yogscast hate. We got more gameplay footage and to be honest it's more likely that their playthrough will make the game come out sooner rather than delay it because more people will preorder it.

We can all be happy it wasn't a very certain HERO who games.
Although Yogscast does have many fans and can be funny or cool at times, they did this badly.
Duncan was being serious, and the rest were just destroying tents to try to be funny. I personally think it could have been better.

Some of it isn't directed at Yogscast themselves, but rather at their actions. Some feel as if they (Yogscast) disrespected something that they (the consumers) hold with great expectations. Others feel as if Yogscast was the incorrect choice of who should play the game. It's all opinion, and people are apt to voice them, especially when upset.

I didn't like them because the show was Yogscast plays Starbound instead of Starbound, as demonstrated by Yogscast. It was more about them and them dicking around than the actual features of the game and what it can offer to people. As I've said before, the procedural generation is a fundamental feature that wasn't even touched on.

They talked about the game in a stream they did the day before, the Yogscast event was their Let's Play of Starbound, where they did their own thing and just messed around.

It was their "world premiere", which did not consist of the game actually being demonstrated and its features explored. A live event like that is a whole other ballgame compared to streaming, and they dropped the ball when it came to making a good presentation that would actually attract people interested in Starbound as opposed to people interested in Yogscast.

I feel it could have been executed better. If the developers themselves had played instead of the yogscast people might have stayed and watched the entire thing because they knew how to play and could show things off better.

That makes sense for the purposes of demonstration, but really, I think having the guys explore the game, learning what you can do laughing, crying, running...it shows how the game can be fun on its own without having to explain it.
I guess I'm just saying it was more "Show, don't tell".

I've read a few of the posts here and it seems like a lot of people had unrealistic expectations about what the Yogscast were going to do. If there was some kind of expectation from the Devs that the Yogscast should/would demonstrate all of the games features, then there should have been much more preparation. However, from what was said, only one of them had played the game, and that was only for about an hour, the other two were completely unfamiliar with it, and with any amount of research on those two, would show that they're not known for being super-serious or informative when playing games.

To be honest, no one should have expected the Yogscast to know a huge amount about the game without any planning, Molly and Bartwe were both there and they didn't talk in great detail about all of the features or even try to guide the three guys playing (at least not openly), so my assumption is that they didn't want to do that. So, is it really the responsibility of three youtubers to do their own research and fully demonstrate and showcase a game? Maybe that was the expectation, but if it was, then there should have been more preparation, as already said. They obviously were asked to play the game there, so if it really was so bad, then i don't see how it was their fault, they did what they should have been expected to do, they're not considered experts on gaming, if that's even a thing, they just play games and people seem to enjoy watching them play those games. In my opinion, they were actually pretty funny and that's as much as i would have expected from them personally.

The only fail in my mind is watching what I think is Beta footage and then being told by Bartwe it's pre-alpha (yes I know he corrected this on reddit). But the fact is that chucklefish are holding back the release of this game for what purpose? We as the buyers should be allowed to play test and find bugs ourselves.... Instead I'm doomed to watch other people play this until a full release I fear. Which is stupid IMO.

  19. Emral282

    Emral282 Scruffy Nerf-Herder

They're holding back the release because that was NOT beta footage. The devs did a lot of setting things up beforehand for the express purpose of making things look workable for that showing. However things working in a fairly controlled environment run by computers controlled by the devs does not mean things will work nearly as well on various consumer machines around the world.

Bart, and a few other devs, I think Armagon and Legris, did a small demo the day before at another panel. So... it did happen. just on in the video you saw. Look here
