i49...fail?

Hey! As of the time of this Post, the Impervium Tier buyers has gone from 7 to 8! I wonder if that 8th Impervium Tier Buyer was an i49 Attendee? :DD

Fail ? Hardly. This is exactly what I wanted. For several reasons.
The first is the crashes. They (The Starbound team) warned a loooong time ago that those kind of crashes were one of the reasons the game is not in beta. They didn't choose the date of the festival, they did what they could to kill as many crashes as possible, but there are always more.
Then, the fact that noobs played is quite good. Because those players didn't know anything about the game, they showed us what the game truly is. They don't know about bugs, oversights, inconveniences and so on. They don't know how to play, maybe they have experience from other 2D platformers just like us. Their playthrough could be yours, could be mine. If they crash there are chances you'd crash too.
On the other hand, a dev is the master of his game. He knows everything, including what's good and especially what's bad, buggy or not working. A dev presenting a game is like a company showing an ad, but a "noob" presenting a game is like a friend giving you its first impressions. Believe whoever you want, but I'd rather have a polished and flawless game that doesn't even compare to the buggy last year build than a black ops-esque situation (For starters, the game was nearly unplayable on release, at least on PC, yet none of the gameplay videos released by the devs themselves showed that the game was filled with bugs, slower than Crysis on a cellphone and host=win netcode)

THis really pisses me off because maybe if you did a little research you would see legris did a demi the day before and showed off alot more features than you saw in the yogscast demo.

However, the yogscast are not "noobs" they've been in the gaming community for a very long time and have really helped minecraft and terraria evolve. Sure they had no idea what was going on but if you watch the yogscast thats what they do and thats what there fans like.

The only part that I will agree is the fact half the people left. I did stop watching it about 3/4ths threw because I was getting bored. I came to see what I saw and that was that.

So don't rip on a few fella's having a good time and don't rip on Molly or bart or legris your Tiy. Besides, what can they do about it? what happened, happened

Throwing my 5c in. Originally I thought Molly and Bart were going to show it off and when these other people I just shrugged and went okay, cool fresh blood in the system. But as it went along I got more and more bored because I kept thinking 'what I would have done' so needless to say I turned it off relatively fast. But on a positive note, the animation and textures look stunning. Also didn't spoil much for myself other then tent blowing up

So we have to look at it to folds. Yes they acted immature and upset people, but by the same token we did manage to see new ish things. And personality that's enough for me. They can play the game their way, i'll play it mine [offline] ;)

It says a lot when people put so much emphasis on hating the people who were playing for the sake of being sensationalist.
(which is exactly what this thread was created for, as the OP has made 2 posts total and offered no replies to his/her own "discussion")

Yogscast proved one thing with this demo; if a bunch of "gaming idiots" can have fun and play without needing much hand-holding, it's a good game.
The things that weren't intuitive to them (like starting with no weapons or gear) seem to be the result of them rushing through and not reading the quests, possibly for the sake of presentation.

He said it in the dev stream of some group play (initially to show some early progression, but it turned into pvp) that they did afterwards (it's on the subreddit, I believe). It was more along the lines of him saying that *for the Yogscast audience*, it was great.

Which is exactly my sentiment on this. Seems like much of the butthurt about the whole thing was because the people complaining were not fans of Yogscast (and sometimes not even knowledgeable of who they were). If you have watched their stuff in the past, this is exactly how they play any game. It's what their fans like and want to see, and since the devs attached the "Yogscast" name so prominently, that is who they were targeting.

For a Yogscast play, it was pretty standard... the key difference is that it wasn't edited. Anytime you watch anything like that in its raw form, it will likely come off awkward, possibly even boring (especially with the block mining/crafting genre). Think about your *actual* plays in early game with something like Terraria or Minecraft. I guarantee you they aren't all that different. Maybe with a little bit less griefing, depending on your sense of humor amongst your friends, but that that is just how the Yogscast crew has fun and gets laughs.

Now, should Chucklefish have gone with a fan service (ie dev) playthrough instead? That's debatable. One one hand it would have made *existing* customers happy, but on the other it would *not* have had the appeal to the rest of the world. Yogscast has a huge following of dedicated gamers, and Chucklefish was trying to get to them (and the general mainstream gamers that would likely check out a Yogscast world premiere playthrough). That is the whole point of these kinds of conferences: exposure and advertising. You are already a customer, and while they want you happy, they have no need to continue to try and sway you. They do more than enough to show us what is going on, they don't need to dedicate the much needed advertising time/money on you as well.

As for the issues about wording of "pre-alpha/beta/whatever", it's just semantics (and was said by bartwe to simply be a nerveousness-caused mistake, not that it even matters).

Bottom line: Get over it, quit reading so much into statements/text that can be interpreted vastly different ways, stop being such impatient, entitled babies, and start appreciating the insane amount of info and fan service you already get. If you have to wait, you have to wait. That's the nature of paying for something before it's out. If you can't handle that, stop going for crowd-funded/pre-ordered/etc. goods because all you're doing is causing unneeded stress and drama.

Yogscast is awesome. I think it was great that they let them demo the game. Yogscast has a way of bringing out the fun in a game and it definitely shows and emulated the good time that you will be having with your friends. It showed how intuitive the game was and how exciting it was when a new monster appears. Even small things like shooting up a tent wouldn't have been in a developer demo. Starbound isn't all about fancy graphics and hyper-realistic AI. It's about having fun with your friends exploring a new world. I think that Yogscast did a great job displaying that.

Just because some people left early doesn't automatically mean they hated the presentation... maybe some of them left because they were happy at how Starbound was coming along & they didn't even need the whole presentation to be sold on the game... plus they mighta wanted to get an idea of the game & beware of getting TOO Spoiled on it at the same time. :DD

& this is coming from a RL Pessimist. :p

Plus, I think damn ill of the RL me, (including but not limited to, I have no self esteem & I seriously think i'm at least somewhat retarded...) & those 3 Stooges made even ME feel like I can play better than that... & for this, I thank them.

have you ever considered that maybe the people left because it wasnt their type of game and not because of the people playing it?

I have no clue how the Yogscast achieved a good reputation in commentary, they're childish and damn annoying.

Probably because their 'childishness' is what makes them sympathetic, and thus more easy to approach. They are relatively good commentators, for what they do. Monotonous, depressive-voiced commentators don't really bring that much people around. What partly makes good ones IMHO is their dynamism and enthusiasm as they go throughout a game, which make people want to have fun watching them, to share that fun with them in some way. Knowledge is the price of excellence, but definitely not a prerequisite when it comes to sharing your passion with your watchers.

100% Fail. Their first problem was choosing Yogscast.

Second was actually allowing them to continue, when they realized that they weren't doing anything.

I think team should have been formed by:
    1. A dev
    2. A famous youtuber
    3. A random person

    Why?
The dev leads them, without spoilering, youtuber gets fanbase, and random p. gives honest opinion in how good is the game playing for first time.

If they (developers) have still bugs in their bugtracker, and still features to implement they dont need betatesters to find bugs. They have enougth to fix/add already.

Actually, giving access to alpha now would probably slow down development, as devs instead of happily frolicking in lines of code and squashing bugs would have to devote time to merging bug reports because same bug was reported 200 times because nobody (as usual) read "known problems list".

There is a place for beta test and it's when most of known bugs are squashed, features are implemented and what's left to do is to balance progression/equipment/monsters and find bugs that happen to 1 on 100 players and/or on weird hardware combinations. Before that it's mostly waste of time.

Unfortunately, them "noobs" have the potential to promote the shit out of Starbound. I have to say though, it could have been handled better.
Maybe, have a dev speak now and again explaining more about the game.

I have a lot of sympathy for Bart and Molly though, they looked nervous as hell. :)
