i49...fail?

Hi 2 all. I am asking developers only one question. They say that they appreciate the community of Starbound. A lot of people have come to Insomnia 49 to watch a gameplay stream with Tiy and other developers. They started a stream with Molly and Bart, but there is no Tiy, Legris, Armagon or Omni.
The question is: why did Molly and Bart let some noobs to test the Demo version of Starbound without any help from developers(comment's or some tip's)? This caused people to disappoint in Starbound developers and go away!
If they are going to do in same way, they will have no Community of Starbound. This stream is fail. These noobs are fail.

Beginning ...full room of people. 5 mins later.. 1/2 of hall is empty
    Think about it!

Thank you for reading. I hope you will join my opinion and will support me.

I thought those yogcast boys were having a lot of fun, and isn't that what the developers want people to do with the game? Have fun? I wouldn't call this a fail.

It's probably better that they isn't get help from the devs. You won't be experiencing the game with your hand held and guided, you'll be dropped into the game with no clue other than what you've read and watched.
It's more realistic for them to play with no aid.

I would have loved to see the developers actually doing the run. as far as the Yogscast I was disappointing with them overall. they seemed like they really were not that interested in the game and were more content with acting like children. Also terrain rape from guns is way too high, looks to be easier to mine with a rifle then any other method.

I loved the game and I loved most of the footage and the combat. however, if this is what Yogscast usually does I don't like them, half of them didn't take it seriously and demo at all. Yes they did have fun but I wanted content I felt like it was a stroke of pure luck that we even saw a boss fight.

An engineered stroke of luck I'm betting.

    No bet.

Still I wouldn't call it fail... horrible to watch but not fail. Its nothing they can't recover from hopefully.

You can't say it was a fail when you don't even know what they wanted to achieve.

Yes i agree with this totatly the destrustion tree's and terrain from rifles is way too much and this would be very annoying when you have to keep on reshaping the land for a build etc...

It seemed fine to me. I watched the whole thing and didn't notice people leaving, definitely not half of the audience. The only way you could have noticed them leaving is if you were there, they were showing the gameplay the whole time on screen. I don't think they were trying to show new content with this demo, i think they just wanted to introduce more people to the game, and by letting some well known Youtube people at it seems like a good plan. All of it seemed pretty natural like what would actually happen to most people who first play a game like this, which is better than some scripted show. Letting them play however they liked is a good indication of confidence in the game, even though it's in pre-alpha.

I'm with Starwind on this. I enjoyed how it unfolded naturally, with minimal scripted decisions, though I'm sure Duncan knew what he had to do. =)
Perhaps it's the anticipation that's speaking, we simply want a detailed breakdown of what the game can do. Me on the other hand, I'm just happy to take in the potential this game can offer.

Jeez guys, you act like it was terrible to the point of getting the pitchforks. The players were pretty annoying because they made the whole thing more drawn out and boring. If they had worked together a bit more and properly showcased it, it would've been fine.

    This post is fail.

Seriously though, we have seen the devs play the game numerous times so this was a great chance to see the reactions and sense of wonder from someone who hasn't played it before.

I really can't see how this can be viewed in a negative light and i'm pretty sure that the community wont just evaporate because some people left a room where the game was being shown.

People who are there, actually took the effort to get up and leave.
You think people wont click a stream off and forget the game in a heartbeat in today society? Sure we are going nowhere.. but it looks like some people are.

In all honesty, the yogscast guys playing was an desirable situation. They had no prior knowledge of how the game was played etc so it shed some light on potential learning curve issues that might be present. Had a dev participated directly, it would have masked these issues. I enjoyed it for the most part. But I felt that only Duncan had any skill or desire to accomplish anything to find out what the game had to offer. Still it's a big step closer to the game coming out and did hopefully open the game up to a new audience.

I hope Tiy does do a dev demo stream tonight to show more accurately what Starbound has to offer however.

Well Tiy has tweeted that he'd like to do a developer demonstration as well.

Tbh, I never thought that the point of the Yogscast display was to appeal to the beta pre-order crowd. It's not like they can show us more without starting to spoil things too much (I'm actually feeling like I spoiled the first boss for myself by watching).
Don't get me wrong, the style of the Yogscast guys set my teeth on edge but the reasoning behind having people hype the game pre-release has already been hashed to death. If they post a copy of their game play (ideally edited) then it should help raise awareness which was the intention as I understand it.

I'm not saying Starbound didn't lose some interested people, it might have and it will do over the course of development but will also gain some too. I'm pretty sure those attending i49 were there for many other reasons too, not just to see starbound so you will get those that are interested and those that are not at any type of expo/games event. Seems that some people are over analyzing the fact that some people didn't fancy watching a stream of a game they probably have no interest in anyways.

Or maybe they left to get a hotdog...

Idk about all of that in the OP.

What I do know though is that the stream made the game look like a pretty Terraria rip, and not much else. I guess some people would see that and try to find more about it just by virtue of liking Terraria, but it didn't really show off Starbound.

It'd be interesting to find out what the devs thought of it. If I were a dev and I make a game with dozens upon dozens of cool features, then give it to someone to show off and they spend 40 minutes killing tents and staircases, I'd be disappointed to say the least.

All they really had to do even to make the stream a thousand times better was to just hop on the ship and go to a different planet after fighting a couple of baddies on the mushroom planet. Starbound's whole hook is traveling to an infinite number of planets and those people walked away from that stream today not even knowing that it exists.

It's kinda like showing off GTA by playing a mission that takes place in an extremely narrow alleyway.
