    Waht. 3ds?

The screen is a little small though. I could see how the bottom screen could be Inventory but I don't really see this happening.

Nintendo isn't too good at third party and indie companies.. probably won't happen. They have SOME indie games, but the amount of work that would go into just making it work on a 3DS would be too much, especially for a unfinished game. Not to mention controls would be a hassle, Terraria is barely playable on consoles let alone mobile, you can double that for Starbound.

Not to mention how this game is laggy on high end computers, can't even imagine what would happen to a poor 3DS.

i would love to see starbound (and terraria and minecraft aswell) on ether 3DS or wiiU myself. would settle for just one of those though if i had to...
and its not as bad as you think, if you have a 3DS xl (LL in japan) becasue the screen is much bigger.

i allready have mc and terraria on both 360 and pc... so there would be no reason NOT to buy starbound if it arrived on another system. heck terraria and minecraft are on PSvita...that would be another reason to get one (for me) if starbound ended up there :)

You could wait for the game to get out of BETA before you even ask these kind of questions.

I doubt the hardware is capable of handling it.

I would love it if there was a 3DS version.

I dunno why people think it couldn't work, I think it's one of the few consoles it could run on pretty nicely, imo.

Besides, Starbound isn't optimized yet. Of course it'll lag.
If they made a 3DS version it would have to run well, obviously. >.>

If you have a mining tool out, have the top screen be your normal view, and the bottom being more zoomed in, just tap and hold where to mine.

Weapons could be aimed similarly to the mining tools, with a aim crosshair thing infront of your character on the top screen to show where he will shoot.

Swords and stuff could be handled with the normal face buttons.

L and A would be jump. Either DPad or Joystick pad thing could be movement.

An item bar and menu buttons on the touch screen, below the aim pad (or whatever it could be called)

And as far as if the 3DS could run Starbound, I'm sure it could, provided that the 3DS version was created for the hardware.

Go look at Steamworld Dig. Which is a 2D platformer with digging and mining that works pretty well.

There is no way Nintendo would host an indie game. They're too snooty for that.

Also obtaining a Nintendo license costs most devs their firstborn.

Nope, no indie games at all.

Silly OP, Terraria is a video game, not a video game platform!

I'm not sure how well it would really work. Assuming the hardware is up to snuff, I imagine they would need to make concessions for gameplay and the UI at the very least. Not sure about other parts of the game. The size of the screen might also be an issue.

minecraft on the 360 is ridiculously tiny in comparison to the PC version, at least it was last year when I played it. Lots of features were left out, and you can basically kiss exploration goodbye.. because you can map out the edges of the map in a short time. This is coming from an explorer more than a builder.

That was the point. I have a 3DS, it's just not capable. At all.

    I don't see how.
Yeah, the game would probably have to be rewritten completely, but I don't see how it isn't possible to have a 3DS version.

Because of a lot of things, a 3DS can't handle a world that big, or most of the stuff that goes on in the game.

What games have you been playing? I think if the 3DS can handle things like Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, it can do a game like Starbound.
Hell, there's tons that are far more power-hungry than starbound that the 3DS runs.
