I was just doing a quest...

While exploring a jungle planet, I encountered a Glitch castle.

After spending hours saving people from the Florans across the friggen map I was given a seemingly innocent quest. Little did I know that this quest would be the demise of the order that resides within the Glitch.

    That quest: Get a Kiwi.

I was given Kiwi seeds and planted them right outside the glitch castle along with a few other crops while I was at it. I later harvested the Kiwi and the rest of the crops and the guards accused me of stealing. For some odd reason, not only did they try to kill me, but they were attacking their own and killed their own king. : (

    All because one Glitch wanted a Kiwi. ;_;

Glitch are a confusing race. That Kiwi was sacred and you managed to doom the Glitch race forever. That glitch knew that the kiwi was a sacred fruit that when picked, causes Glitch in a radius to become angered and attack anyone and everyone in their sight.

    Update:

I'm trying to be the best I can be.

Since I can't make peace with the guards, I trapped them:

On a side note, I wish there was a way to toggle damage for all unarmed NPC's.

probably would have been best to do farm a little further out. The flat terrain you see is still considered their land. Just a note for next time. I have gotten similar with a floran village, although that was in the pre-release 1.0 version in 0.8-0.9 versions of the unstable branch; where one of the guards I had to deal with killed one of the florans I was working on to become crew. At least the other guards were not alerted though.

Keep in mind line of sight or vacinity when you get attacked, also note ones running to alert guards. The more they alert the more that will... you got the picture, as to the dirt prisons you had to make. But generally only the ones nearest would be agro, unless another comes in range while fighting, or a civilian spots you and runs back to... well I think you can surmise the process. Civilians at least calm down faster than the guards. Guards will calm down eventually for as long as you don't keep them within sight of you or near you; they just take a bit longer to cool down. However just means easier for the others to become hot headed due to suspicion.

Just like you it all started with a quest to rid an army of scientists. accidentally did a secondary attack and first guard went nuts. The second was in the vacinity and would not leave me alone when I hopped over the hill to the guard. Lost quite a few civilians due to that, including the initial guard that gave me the quest originally. ><

Suffice to say I am a bit more cautious and careful in what I do around villages that are not of my own making. :nurutease:

Guards eventually cool down? I did not know that. It used to be that I could just beam to my ship and back and they'd be peaceful. I tried that but it didn't work.

At least this time I know that I can just stay way and return later on.

I also didn't know that Guards needed to be alerted. The whole castle was hostile against me with the exception of most civilians. At one point, I had to attack the guard to get his attention or else he was going to kill a friendly civilian. :nurusad:

    On a side note:
Do civilians or guards ever respawn?

On Escort quests, do they take an already existing NPC and spawn them elsewhere? Or are they completely new NPC's that go to live in the village when you escort them.
When I've failed a few, I'd get the message that they'd respawn somewhere safer. Is that true?

Why do I care so much for mere lines of code?

    That's pretty weird.

I suppose you could say those guards suffered from a.... glitch.

no respawn, unless it is of you own colony deed. So the only ones that would respawn would be the ones that were made with the colony deed.
Escort that add to population is more or less gaining new bodies for the village. So they are just new.
As to respawn safer comment I have no idea, as I haven't ever got that message before. Safe is relative to location anyhow; since you are always going to get random spawns of enemies along the way.

I've had guards attack other villagers too, this was an Avian village. I think it's just an AI bug where it references the damage to the other NPC and makes them an enemy causing the guards to kill them. Kind of sad really, I've had to kill guards to save an avian woman from being turned into bits.

At least you made it in time which counts... I wasn't so lucky... :nurutease:

Yeah, the only reason I made it in time was because they were in my party and I was bringing them back to the village because another Avian of said village asked me to. It seemed like there was a monster that hit the unarmed villager I was escorting and the guard, and the guard went cray and decided "If I can't kill the monster, this will have to do." Was really odd.

It was the smell that drove the guard nuts... oh my. monster blood... must cleanse that filth, destroy... destroy... Wonder if the guard glitched like that. Of course yeah on the coding side of it probably be more of a bug in switching target type thing I would guess.

I have had a pet of one of my colonists in beta before release attack a quest brought NPC. Funny thing is, it was the master of the pet that originally had me rescue the lost soul. Nothing like coming home to a friend's pet that absolutely hates you. >< Or in that case, wants blood. Well at least that was fixed quite quickly. NPC owned pets that is. That was mildly disturbing, and ironic in a way. I guess for a moment that one had rabbies, and in a way got a cure. But like I said that was in one of the beta builds before release. :nuruhappy:

Did you chip in just to say a pun?
    Bug off.

    LittleWasp beat you to it.

I can't blame you though, it's hard not to use puns when they're just wired into your brain.
