I think I've figured something out...

Hey guys, I just played for two hours without issues, and I think I know why:

I've always disabled the steam runtime. Just use the environment variable STEAM_RUNTIME=0

Note: I've never deleted the libraries or used a symlink, that's dangerous. I usually copy any missing libraries (found via ldd) to /usr/lib/ or /usr/lib32/. Your mileage may vary.

I think most of these issues must be library based, seeing as they happen on various distros.

Edit: Scratch that, I can't get museum rewards either. That particular bug seems unrelated to libraries.
