I think it is the right time for the devs to put Starbound on Steam,I know it will be eventually but I saw Edge of Space has already appeared on Steam so I think Starbound should too!I think a lot of people will join the Starbound community after they see Starbound on Steam, people that don't even know that Starbound exists! It will be a great step for forward for the game!I don't say that it needs to have a preorder function yet but it should have its own page on the Steam store! What do you think?

    (Sorry for my bad grammar)

Why? The game isn't even in beta stage yet.

No, Edge of Space is a good reason to delay beta so there is no connection between the two. Starbound is its own game.

EDIT: Pardon me, I jumped to conclusions; this thread isn't about beta. Still, I vote no on the same grounds mentioned before.

The game is quite far off from release, it doesn't need to be greenlit and already has a huge following. Why does it need a steam page? Yes, maybe they'll get a little attention, but it wouldn't be splashed up on the front page of steam until it comes out, so there is no point really, it's a trivial matter.

Just a Steam page,I didn't say anything about the beta or that they should release the game!

I don't see why people are against this. It may as well have a steam page, what is the point of leaving it until the last minute?

Creating a steam page doesn't connect it to Edge of Space, he was simply mentioning that many other games have a steam page even while they're in Alpha... And Starbound is in closed Beta.

I see no use in putting it off, and I see no problem in getting more followers. A steam page would be perfect to help out the developers and perhaps fill up those remaining big cash pre-orders.

Those of you who say no to this have no reason... It offers no negatives and can only help the game by furthering knowledge.

Or perhaps you guys are being greedy and don't want to share? :O

Edge of space didn't do very well. Put Starbound on steam when it's ready.

I don't want them to release the game just put out a Steam page so more people can see the game and maybe preorder it!

Edge of Space didn't do very well because it's a terrible game. I tried out the beta on some open-beta weekend, and got bored within 30 minutes. It has no playability, the crafting, mining, and fighting aspects are terribly made, and I honestly expect the game to go no where, despite having a successful kickstarter.

Games don't fail because they go on steam... Games fail because they are bad.

Starbound has a massive following and is one of the most anticipated games of 2013. It will do well.

From what I heard the main issue with EoS is they put it up on beta when very little was done. I have heard people say they hope it gets better with time but that releasing it at the state it is in to the public was a really bad idea and gave people bad first impressions.

Not saying it is or is not a bad game, just that it is a bad beta that may or may not become a better game.

Starbound is so overhyped that if it releases beta without enough content it will go the same way as Edge of Space.

Maybe you are right. Probably actually. The game was utterly terrible when I tried it out. Only three tiers of ore, way to easy to die, fighting was terrible, no increase in monster tiers, etc. Oh, and only two biomes. Yeah, it was so bad that I actually gave up on that game.

There is a difference between making a steam page, and releasing a game.

I wasn't suggesting its a bad move, it's just not a move that needs to be made right now. I'm sure it's not a 1 2 3 bish bash bosh job, it probably takes a good bit of time to get a steam page up, they could have this already planned for a certain time we don't know.

All I'm saying is taking the time to do this now, in full development swing, will likely take time and resources away from actually developing the game.

I'm all for Starbound being greenlit for Steam - but until the game is playable for the general public, I'm not for it making any appearance there. From what I've seen with several other indie games with early alpha releases there (ex: Gnomoria, Edge of Space), it would not do any good to open the floodgates like that at this stage - it will only bring more destructive criticism (as opposed to constructive criticism, which Starbound devs are getting here IMO) than positive feedback. Once the game is in a fully-playable state (a few months after we've all had beta access and were able to provide immediate feedback on our experiences), a release on Steam would then bring it the profits and fanbase it deserves. No need to rush!
