I Predict a Riot

I personally just think its incredible that if you check the pre-order page they are selling about 50 copies a minute at pixel tier. I love seeing that type of adoption rate even if it slows down the ol' email.

Just realized they've sold about 20k pixels since yesterday around this time. That's an average of 13 pixels a minute or 780 every hour! Awesome!

 

I've got to wait about 8 hours from the time the keys start to send before I can even begin to download/install it. Not so worried about there being a delay, but for those of you who did take the day off of work, you should know better than to take off release day for anything. You always take the day AFTER to avoid the download/release issues

About ten years ago I ran a small ISP, we had a mail server that was like 500mhz / 512 megs of ram collocated at a datacenter. I could send out 100k mails in minutes, it's simply not that much, and mail (unless you are using some pos like ms exchange) is a pretty lightweight service.

By the time my key arrives, I will have a whole day of things to do behind me. There is more than one timezone.

 

I don't want to fan the flames of impending doom and gloom but what if..they sound out..the same key to every person? Oh the horror!

 

I'm going to start hitting people with a nightstick and have a shield and tear gas.

That's how I get my fun.

 

It's Steam we're talking about. I'm pretty sure they can handle all of us wanting the game, especially after games like GTA V

 

What?

GTA V was never released on Steam, because it was never released on PC...

 

I'm sorry, it had to be done. Humble bundle and Steam can certainly handle several hundred thousand users at once.

 

I can't help but feel like this was just a ploy to get a key early.

 

I'm referring more to AAA titles in general. Eventually GTA 5 Will be on PC, and it will be on Steam, at which point those that pre-ordered the PC version will doing the same thing we are...

 

Remember skyrim? 'cause I do. That launch was a mess... Keys were malfunctioning, downloads took HOURS. That's what we wanna avoid. Luckily I think most of the releases since then have been super smooth And, starbound is smaller, so it will be quicker to download.

 

Still no key. 10.03 AM.

I know there were issues with Skyrim, but for me I didn't run into issues during that time. I imagine SB will go smoother being that it's so small. Some people have said they have bad download speeds, but those with good ones should be able to get it done quickly. Leaving room for those that take a while to not be slowed down even more. I just hope this all goes smoothly.
