I need protection from accidental clicking!!!

    Hey all,

So I'm 99% sure we've all done this at some point. You're placing something or putting up some blocks from inventory and your previous item was a drill so once the item is placed, your drill pops out and an accidental second click (sometimes not even felt) lands on a chest and BOOM chest disappears and all your stuff falls out. Now this isn't always a HUGE issue but I have recently been using a mod with lockers from 63 up to 300 spots each. And after accidentally clicking ONCE in between 3 63 space lockers and having 180 items poor out onto my space ship floor, i figured it's time to seek help.

My question is, is there a way in Starbound or any kind of mod or ANYTHING that can protect against this. Something along the lines of "Locking" items in place, locking just chests or lockers in place, or something to toggle use of pickaxe/drills on your spaceship, ANYTHING. Thanks in advance if anyone can help or has any tips that might help me avoid doing this if there isn't a way to actually protect me.

    Hurley

    I have a good tip:
    Be more careful.

But seriously. You could switch to a simpler tool like a Matter Manipulator (lel who uses that any more) or take your tools out of your hotbar if you have that much trouble.

Yeah, switch to something harmless like a weapon or a the matter manipulator before placing blocks from inventory.

As an aside, the only reason I still carry my MM is to scan the earth for ore when I feel like wasting my time actually digging instead of just skimming the surface or a world like a sane person. Apparently a T1 planet (non-nightly) covers all tiers of picks! And that's about all spelunking is good for besides the occasional tech.

Either what they said or ask me to handle this for you.

Leave your L/R quickslot emptied! Whenever you are not doing anything in your base switch to the emptied L/R quickslot and walk empty-handed.

And of course, be careful, always.

This, and press X when you don't need anything in your hands.
I get annoyed constantly running around with a sword/hammer in my hand so I like to keep them clear until i need them.

Heh, thanks for the answers guys. So looks like I just have to be more careful. I do try to equip something like a weapon when placing blocks but without even thinkin about it sometimes I just switch back to drill. One big problem too is that I sometimes use a mod that one shots all bricks so there's no "Whoops I just hit a chest I should stop before I destroy it" option haha. Thanks again ya'll

That's what I do. Don't put anything except possibly weapons in your L and R slots and be sure to switch to those slots when you don't need to mine or dig.

Two shields in your l/r slots! For double the protection! (Does this work? Hmm...) Although I'm actually almost sure there is a way to lock items in place. Servers have like... 'protection' and stuff which prevents removing blocks and stuff. I wonder if that could be used for this purpose as well... The only problem I ran into with protected worlds however is that players are unable to defend themselves from monsters which REALLY SUCKS if it's a t10 planet.

What's wrong with items laying around on the floor? If the floor is not the place to have junk around on then build a pool and fill it with all the stuff you gathered then swim around in it like a greedy dragon.

I found that most of my problems with accidentally clicking were remedied by sophomore year in high school. It was very fortunate that we accidentally banded together, as none of us actually had the motivation to join any of the other cliques. We realized this after spending a year eating lunch together, but there were many people less fortunate than us that ended up staying with cliques they joined accidentally but really didn't belong to.

Oh, that's not what this is about?

Like others said, I had tons of issues breaking things I JUST placed, and it caused huge problems when I was building my underlava towns (yay for lavaflow destroying my beautiful tunnel). There's really no in-game solution right now, other than un-equiping your drill/pickaxe while you do building.

However, if you die in a molten fire four or more times, you will learn to practice safe and purposeful clicking.

Never keep a destructive tool in your hand when you're performing constructive work.

I have a flashlight and a shield in my L/R and I switch to them whenever I'm not actively destroying things.

Built a massive underwater base with the "Variety is the spice of the universe" mod. All windows were minimum 5 blocks thick for this very reason.

Yep, I did that once....and only once.

Drill plus close proximity to chests meant I lost nearly a whole chest of ores as they faded away so I never took my drill near a chest again....

Of course it would be helpful to make chests with items in them invincible from removal.

Haha this made me literally laugh out loud. If only my items didn't disappear this would be the best option :)

I acidentally clicked the bottom of a stack of lab lockers in my ship once.
The game froze, "shit" i thought while watching in despair as the carefully organized contents erupted in stop motion before my eyes,
my screen was covered with the labels of items i would have to put back in order again.
To this day i do not know if something was lost that time and i will likely never know, but i won't forget.... the mistake that was made.

I know the feeling, but worse
useing my mod I had 3 ship lockers that I crafted, placed, and stuffed full of things. I accidently broke them all at once 192 stacks of items comes flying out game crashed...
I came back and all of it was gone, luckily it was just the random crap im to lazy to throw away so thats finally gone
