I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I've tried for hours on end, trying to get a simple Race mod to work, but it wont. I've looked up countless tutorials to help me, but when I do what they say, it still doesn't work. I download everything correctly and place things in the right folders. But I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Hopefully someone can help my poor soul . Thanks in advance.
There isn't enough information. Are you getting an error message when you start the game? If so, having a copy of the error(s) from the starbound.log file in the starbound directory would help a lot. Is the mod just not showing up with nothing else wrong? There might be a fix to that, such as having the wrong folder in the mods directory, or incompatible modpak (they updated this system recently).
The game opens up no problem. Im having trouble getting the mods to work. All I'm trying to do right now is get a simple race expansion so I can hold more races, and then a few extra races. If needed, the Avali is one of the races I am trying to get. I start the game up. but when i go to create a new character, then menu is the same as normal and there are no new races or a new menu that holds the race selections. .
I haven't messed with custom races, but there is enough information to work with now for some one that knows better. All I can really think is that the mods were not placed in the correct folder. For example, a mod when downloaded might have a name like "racemodv1.42b.zip" but the folder inside it "racemod" or the file "racemod.modpak" is what needs to be in the mods directory. I've read this problem causes mods to be overlooked. For the current update, many mods need to update their "modpak" files, if it is in that form, so it may not work immediately, but it would crash talking about the folder "Asset2" if that were the case.
I know the mods are placed in the my "mods" folder correctly. That was my first problem I had fixed some time ago. My game hasn't crashed or anything. Its basically just working how the game normally would. I dont understand why its doing this. I figured there would at least be errors or crashes or something.
Which character creation interface mod are you using? The default creation menu appears to have changed since the update and it's been affecting all three of the custom interface mods I use to test my race with.
Ive tried: http://community.playstarbound.com/...d-character-creation-mod-now-even-easier.218/ http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?resources/odb2-character-creation-mod.1241/ http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?resources/kawas-xbawks-mode-character-creator.81/
Hmm... I'd already tried the first and third one and I just now downloaded the second one quick and tried that as well and it does seem they're all suffering from the same problem for me. When you load up your game and go to the character creation menu I'm assuming it shows up but it looks like one or more sides are being cut off, including either custom race buttons, character options or even the character display? If any of that is true then it has something to do with whatever change they made to the default character creation interface that re-centers the menu and adds size limits to it which pretty much breaks all custom race creation interface mods. Sadly this also means that custom races are going to be pretty much unavailable if you don't already have an existing character until either the default menu is changed back or the custom interface mods are updated to work within the new restricted area.
Nothing is happening when I create a new character. Like its the same as the default screen. I guess I might just have to wait for everything to get fixed up unless there's a solution to this.
I guess you're having a different issue than I am then. I'm at least seeing parts of the custom interfaces so if yours isn't changing at all then I'm at a loss. :\
This is actually the problem I've been having. Posted my own thread about it not too long ago and got linked here. Hope they fix this soon if that's the case. @_@
The latest stable update changed the way menus are rendered. You can either tinker with it yourself or wait for the mod authors to do so. Regarding the OP, have you unzipped the mods? Like, when you double click on the mod itself, do you see a modinfo file with various folders around it, or just one folder?
When I double click the mod itself, a modinfo file with a bunch of other folders comes up. Or a few folders depending on which mod I click.
So they're definitely not zip files... And you're in Starbound/mods. You don't have more than one Starbound installation, do you?
So I have never posted before but I found a fix for the character creation screen being half when you try and use a race mod and I had to share. Its super simple just go into your starbound folder and look for a file that says imagecache and delete it then load the game and it should work, at least it did for me. The problem is that it stores an image of the character creation screen that is only so wide, so when you try and load the modded character creation screen it remembers it was only so wide so it cuts half off. Deleting the image cache makes the game restore the information. Sorry I know this doesnt help Pawlowskii but hopefully it does everyone else.
I am using both the first character extension mod you linked and the avali race mod, and they're working perfectly fine for me. What exactly is the issue you are having? Can you not see or select the modded race in the character extender, or can you not see the character extender in the first place? If I go into my mods folder, I see the mods, fully extracted from their zip/rar files as normal folders. Clicking on the race folder ("avali", for example) shows me many more folders (cinematics, codex, etc) as well as the config files and the modinfo on the bottom. Clicking on the extension mod ("charactercreationmod", for example) shows me an interface folder and the mod info file. All mods are at their latest installation and are working perfectly fine. What's the path on your end?
Well, then I'm stumped. Mod installation is really simple in Starbound, I don't know what else to tell you.
