I just realized there's no critical hit system in this game.

I have no strong feeling one way or the other, tell the devs I said, "hi".

I would be okay with critical hits only under certain circumstances. Like instead of just die rolling particularly well, you'd have to do something like a parry. I guess a good example would be TF2. They only did it half right by having random crits in the game anyway, but they do have some mechanics that do crits right. Like how if a sniper coats someone in jarate and then hits them with a specific melee weapon while they're still under the jarate's effects, that person takes a crit to the face.

Haha, no hate for P&P and tabletop games!

Crits and stuff have a place there, since those dice rolls exist to simulate real life mechanics that cant be carried out by a little piece of plastic on the table. Sprites dont need to roll dice to dodge fireballs, they just have to step to the left =P

Crits in this type of video game are good for game feel, the excitement of absolutely creaming something, but why bother when other mechanics can serve the same purpose with more player interaction? For instance, momentum based combat. The feel of running and leaping off of a cliff and coming down hard for massive bonus damage on some baddie will always feel better and be more satisfying in the long run than one in every ten hits being double damage.
