I honestly believe Starbound was... A failure, to say the least?

You have to stay warm somehow, those snowy planets are cold. There are no reasons to desire no improvement in a game you like.

Kinda surprised no one has done this yet, perfect chance for popcorn.

Anyway I think the guy gets the point with the entire force of the forum descending upon him. At this point there is really no need for anyone to say anything else.

    1. Plays beta.
    2. Complaints about bugs and lack of optimization.
    3. Gets huffy and tries to start a personal confrontation when people point out that betas have bugs.

    I spot a troll.

    Mods take note.

    Trolls trolling a troll.

Also the people who are attempting to correct OP's abhorrent behavior.
Because this isn't a review or criticism, it's just whining.

I agree with most of the folks posting here specifically to saying that Starbound, based on its current iteration, is/was a failure. That's a bit premature and the developers will be working out the bugs, balance issues and polish before it is completely released. I can appreciate your points, OP, but largely they fall under the "We're in stage 1 beta (alpha?)" development cycle of the game. I'd recommend taking a brief break, letting it progress to the next stage and playing some other games until it has a bit more work done under the hood and on the exterior. For myself, I'm loving the game so far (I've never played Terraria and briefly played Minecraft) so this is pretty new to myself. Besides, what other game allows me to be a Medieval Android/Robot that fancies himself a knight? :)

I find the progress to be fine although there's always room for more improvement. After reading a few tips about what to do, I found myself being a lot more successful and not feeling the strain that is constantly dying to mobs (although I still die if I'm not careful!) As for the character's speed, you may consider it slow but I find it quite ironic that they are able to run an entire loop across the planet's surface in 5 minutes or less! If they were any faster... well... that wouldn't be very interesting now would it?

Mining resources IS a grind and takes time, it was intended to be that way. The difference is that the more you mine, the more chances you will have to find rarer ores, which in return allow you to upgrade your pickaxe to become faster and better. Grinding has its own reward that if you stick around for it, will only get better. Starts slow but speeds up.

PS: For future reference, I would suggest you stay away from beta stages as far as possible and wait for the official launch. Unlike some games that use betas as a marketing ploy, this one is actually a true beta.

Sounds to me like it's a personal problem. Not Starbound's.

I'm sorry but what the heck are you people talking about when you say "It's BETA!!!!!!!"?

Have you read the OP? He's complaining about core design ideas of the entire game.

The UI is clunky and unintuitive? which part? I found it extremely simple and easy to understand. The only thing might be to make it clear about which shortcut key does what.

The interface is unhelpful. Whaa? It's a very simple click and drag system. I must be playing a different game.

changing controls. That is a point. Every game should have rebindable controls.

Enemies are less intelligent than Terraria - I guess? I don't find either enemy particularly intelligent. a couple of terraria enemies move in circles, maybe that's what you mean? and the bosses have set patterns, but they're not smart.

It isn't Fun - Ok, now I'm getting the real picture.

everything is sloooow - That is a design decision. One that I love. I don't want to have that ridiculous Terraria vibe where I fly all over the sky with fireworks coming out of my ass. I'm glad they calmed things down a bit.

I guess I read your complaints and your title "is a FAILUREEEE!!!" and I can't help but think that you just played for a few minutes, died immediately, got frustrated, died again, got angry, talked to a friend who had the same experience, and uninstalled the game. Either that, or you were expecting Terraria 2, and this isn't that.

OP aside, I have to wonder what a lot of people here would think of Kerbal Space Program. I can't even imagine.

    -STARBOUND IS NOT FRICKING TERRARIA!

I'm sorry, but this is easily the best sandbox game ever already and it's in very very early beta so I just don't think it should even but legal to call it a failure.

After 47h... the game is definitly fun. Large area to discover, random locations (castle, monkey lab...), ton of easter eggs...

I didn't played terraria, but starbound feel like minecraft had a baby with metal slug.

Worst thread ever. Nice try troll. He's really from the terraia forums. Also the game is far from finished.

PS: Sucks to be you then. I have been playing Starbound every day and loving every minute.

Well, I'm not sure what the OP was expecting. He titles his thread "I honestly believe starbound was a failure to say the least". Really? On a forum of a game that started Beta 4 days ago.

There's a difference between criticizing and saying you don't like the game because it's not a fully polished release.
A critique involves pointing out the flaws, alternatives to better it, and that's it.
You just whined and said you don't like this and that and then some subtle insults here and there.

    Also, it's a BETA!
Learn what a beta is and then continue to purchase access to them.
This isn't some cheap copy/pasted Asian MMO that's F2P with some game breaking cash shop that pops up every few weeks to flood the over saturated North American F2P market.
Those crapfests are more complete and polished during beta. Why? Because their beta is just to see whether everything works properly once ported into English.
A real beta is bugs, missing content, and designs that need working.
Basically, we're QAing the game as if we were QA at some gaming company. We get to play with the broken things and see how it can be fixed and turned into some presentable.

If they release the game in a condition such as it is now (Anyone remember FFXIV 1.0?) then yeah, then bitch and complain the game sucks.
Hopefully, Starbound won't become Starbound Reborn 2.0 before they get it right. They're working hard to add, fix, and code things in properly and are actively listening to our feedback.
