I honestly believe Starbound was... A failure, to say the least?

I'd agree that the tutorial is a tad confusing & you are stuck figuring out how to do things for yourself at the beginning of the game. But how is this different than Minecraft or Terraria exactly? Neither of these games had tutorials either. Plus, it is extremely likely the tutorial missions in the beginning will be heavily expanded far before the release... they're just placeholders for now.

like many others have stated its a beta read about a game before you buy it

Well, there is the tutorial quest about getting wood to build a workbench

The logical next step would be to actually place the workbench and see what you can do with it

It's not obvious, but it doesn't leave you completely in the dark like Minecraft does (you can't play that game without wikis)

They're clearly working on this as we speak, given that they re-vamped the wording of various tutorial quests to be more informative. Give it some time

Not sure how to respond here, what parts of the interface are you failing to understand? Noting the specifics can help the developers figure out ways to address your confusion.

Both of these are issues with the early beta that will most assuredly be fixed by the full release.

Subjective, I'm having a blast with this game :D

Again, early beta. The website states that you should expect bugs, crashes, and parts of the game plainly not working. If there are particular issues that consistently show up, you can help with the beta process by reporting the issues on the forum.

This goes back to the unintuitive point you made before, but you shouldn't jump straight into the world expecting the matter manipulator to be your mining tool. Use it to knock down a few trees and mine some cobblestone and you can make a pickaxe which will do a much better job of mining.

The character's movement speed seems fine to me personally, but if you search around you can find a Tech that allows your character to dash, increasing your speed as you run around the surface of the planet. I also wonder why you feel the need to be crossing the same stretches of land over and over, are you returning to your ship everytime you loot something interesting? or are you being forced back by the monsters?

I'm not sure I understand your complaint about the music. The change from serene to upbeat is one of the warnings to the player that they've attracted the attention of a hostile creature, would you rather the music stay serene and peaceful while a group of monsters are chasing you around?

The most important thing to note, overall, is that the game "as is" is the early early beta phase. And this isn't like EA putting out the Battlefield 4 "beta" where the entire game is done and they're looking for last minute bugs that players will take note of, this is an actual beta.

when the beta launched last Wednesday, it was essentially in the earliest playable state that the developers were comfortable with showing the playerbase. It is written all over the place that the game is not anywhere near being finished. If you want to have the "full and complete no-bugs Starbound experience" then you need to wait for the actual release date of the game.

Now, being in beta doesn't make the game immune to criticism, but the beta status must be kept in mind when you are making your complaints. "The game crashes all the time!" is par for the course for this stage of development, stating that this happens isn't useful unless you can provide helpful information for the developers to find the problem, ie: "The game crashes sometimes when I warp back to my ship!" Or you could turn "I can't understand the interface!" to "Could you make it more clear how the crafting windows work?"

In short, uninformative complaints are completely useless at this stage. It doesn't warn people away from the game, as the game isn't finished yet and your complaints could well be baseless when it launches, and it doesn't contribute to the beta process as you're not providing enough information for the devs to work on fixing the issue. Criticism is welcome right now, just be more specific about what you don't like.

I don't really feel like the character is "slow moving" and I could find everything fine when I played for the first time, seemed straight forward to me and it is in beta.

Wow really? The fact that you can make an anvil did not hint anything?

I don't think it is opressing people with negative feedback. This is opressing people with negative feedback which does not contribute to making the game better at all.

Posting what you do not like is encouraged given that you justify WHY do you think something is bad. Then it is feedback actually worth something, because you know what exactly would need to be changed.

I did not have any crashes in game, only when i QUIT game sometimes an error appears, but no progress is lost or something, so i do not care ;)
Also its an early beta and the community wanted to participate in the beta at any costs - including such problems.

Points like "It isn't fun" are really useless and show off your not constructive. Leting of your steam here dont change much.

    OH GOD.

I hoped no one would make a thread like this. I really did.

It's BETA. Nothing but BETA. You're playing an unfinished game. Of course it's clunky, Of course the AI is stupid, Of course there are a billion bugs. If you don't like it, Don't play betas.

oh you forgot the part about the artstyle, he was right about the visuals of the game tho.

i guess Tiy might like this feedback about his art so he can improve it?

It's not that he's writing about things that should be fixed, it's how he did it.

for the record, the enemy AI is actually really good at trying to keep up with you, they just need ceiling/floor pathfinding and swimming behaviors. some ai actually know how to dodge attacks on a rudimentary level also.

you can derp their patterns with knockback and double jumping, but that's sort of the point of being able to do those things

Well, although i don't agree with everything the OP said, i do think that stating that it is a beta and ignoring things is not helping. In my opinion, the UI is pretty lacking, especially when i am in a fight, and miss click c instead of x and the crafting menu pops up, i would think that pressing c again would close it quickly, but instead it goes straight into the search bar and causes me to freeze and get mauled. The game is a little clunky and could use refinement, but that will eventually be fixed through patches. and the beginning is pretty slow, the matter manipulator seems to be the tool to use, but that assumption is wrong and the primitive tools need to be made. After one gets the tools, it speeds up a little, until you get one hit ko'd by everything, but i believe that the new update coming up will fix that.

Oh, and i'm having a blast playing!!!

See? THIS is proper criticism. Pointing out an issue so the Dev team can get on it and fix it, not just saying the game is bad.

I LOVE Starbound, I liked Terraria, but didn't play it much, though I love the whole idea behind this, don't know how anyone can think a Beta is the full game though.

Look, they told you before you downloaded it that the beta would likely be ALL of those things, because they are still developing it and trying to figure out balance. They TOLD you that if you didn't want that, to wait until the second phase of the beta. Why don't you LISTEN?
