I honestly believe Starbound was... A failure, to say the least?

I disagree with most of this. Clunky gameplay? I literally hopped into the game practically already knowing what I was doing.

This thread is like going to a fancy deli and asking for a sample of meat from one of the sandwiches on the menu, then going "THIS SUCKS WHERE'S THE REST OF THE SANDWICH?"

Well it hasn't been made yet

It's not that you're giving criticism, it's that this thread is named "I honestly believe Starbound is a failure", which is basically like stopping halfway through writing a book and giving up because everything isn't perfect

also, i don't know what kinda butts weapon you got to start with, but i got a sword with a massive hitbox that might actually be too strong for a starting weapon if it weren't for the fact that the death penalty balances it out, the only real fixes we need are hunting weapons that are balanced for the area

as for the diggin down, I think you might need a change in perspective....assuming that the game is exactly like terraria would lead you to believe that drilling down is always the best, but in starbound, most of the resource spawns are NEAR NATURALLY SPAWNED WALLS so you should be trying to find as many cave holes as you can and then scraping nearby to see if they connect to any other caves, instead of trying to drill a hole, which leads to nothing because nothing was spawned there

secondly, if you want better materials, try higher level planets! they're pretty much buried in massive ore deposits as a tradeoff for the higher level monsters. you might need better weapons, but if you take a look around, people have coordinates for gun vendors and it's not very hard to scrape up pixels for a good weapon (although in the future the changes should somewhat mitigate having to purchase a weapon to take on the high end of the sector)

if you try to play this game like it's terraria, that'd be like trying to play terraria like you're playing minecraft

Of course you can.. this forum is full of members giving Chucklefish feedback on the game. But calling it a "failure" seems trolly & is way premature. We're talking a game that has roughly half of the content it's supposed to that the devs are still tweaking for balance and polish. Not to mention the bugs.

I'm curious - did you even read Tiy's definition of the Stage 1 beta and his suggestions about whether or not you will play it? Because if you did, you probably should've decided it wasn't for you. There isn't a game in history that you could play in its Alpha state and have it reach the expectations that you apparently had for it. The fact it was going to be buggy and lacking polish with incomplete content was common knowledge at the time of the beta release.

    * I've played clunkier games

    * I like the UI, it's better than Having to use wiki to find recipes for everything (Minecraft)

    * it's early beta, that feature can be added

    * Enemies do their job well, attack and chase, I don't know what else you want them to do

    * It isn't fun? uh ok... I'm loving it to death

*It's early beta, as of now we've only had 2 patches. Be patient

This just in - Starbound's last content patch released today. This marks the end of an Era - Journalists claim "shortest lifespan ever in a videogame", citing the game hasn't even gone out of beta before being considered "obsolete"

It sucks that you're disappointed, but you've already invested your $15.

All I can say is don't play it until the final release, and give it another shot.

You're complaining about an absence of features that haven't been put in yet because they're not done

So basically you are upset because you couldn't figure out how to craft a pick axe, and tried to dig with the multi-tool?

Criticism without input on what to change and fix is not criticism. it's inane complaining for sake of complaining. As such, this thread amounts to little more than LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME!

I had to read a wiki to figure out that you could make tools - at first, I thought that I simply had to upgrade my multi-tool ... somehow. Giving you such a starter item is misleading imo.

Skipping planets to the highest level one in your sector is OP as fuck righ tnow, get one lvl 10 AP weapon that's decent in alpha and it's enough
Guns with high AP (airships) seem too good/easy/cheap (pixelwise) for specific areas.

Overall I wouldn't say it's shit, but I'd say it's at least around the same tier as Terraria so far, I am sure that by release and then after that it will become much better as there is a lot of things I've seen in the files and otherwise that aren't in yet, as well as much to be changed, including the rehaul/removal of AP and 'levels' which will most likely provide more of a challenge. The fact that playing my second character I was able to go from Copper->Impervium with no help never making anything inbetween is absurd.

Well. All your "This is BETA" posts are useless.
Its important that we get negative feedback posted too.

"BETA" cant be the only answer to throw at people that contribute with negative impressions.

Stop with your "its BETA" excuse.
He has no fun... thats alright...this will happen.
I have a lot of fun...many people have a lot of fun with the game allready...still, stop opressing people that have something negative to say...this will stop others from writing their negative impressions...and that wont help the game at all.

    Personally, I think it's a great game.
Yes, the inventory management is clunky and the game is riddled with bugs, but it was stated that that would be the case in stage 1 beta.
The actual gameplay is great, if a bit unbalanced/short right now. Again, though, all will be fixed with time.

I was actually really surprised that a level 20 sniper rifle only cost like 600 pixels or so to buy from a merchant
