I have some questions

There's a few things bothering me while playing Starbound (aside from the lag* of course, lack of a pause function** while in the inventory and the like etc). So here's some questions I'd like answers to, if anyone can:

    1. Why does the Matter Manipulator on the hotbar look like a pickaxe? Call me an idiot but I'm pretty sure it should LOOK like the Matter Manipulator... makes perfect sense to me, so I'm bewildered why it doesn't.

    2. Why does the next stage to a quest deactivate tracking and revert to the main quest? It's really, really confusing having to go back into the quest window to figure out which quest I was in the middle of (and by the time I've figured it out I've starved to death because of no pause).

    3. When I drag a salve into my inventory (from a chest etc) my stack of them on the hotbar vanishes. The stack is still in my inventory but now I have to drag it back onto my hotbar (and risk bing killed because there's no pause). This doesn't happen if "taking all" from a chest or whatever. I'm not sure if this only happens to salves as that's the only thing I have a stack of on the hotbar.

    4. When I chose rocket jump at the Outpost tech console it gave me multi jump instead. Why? I had to spent more tech cards unlocking the rocket jump again. I did notice that for some reason the list of tech upgrades had re-ordered themselves but I definitely clicked on rocket jump and it have me multi jump.

    5. The tech console that you can buy at the Outpost. It says (in red lettering) that it is destroyed if broken. What does this mean? If I place the console and need to move it using the MM (which is the only way) then I loose it? It costs 5000 pixels, are you saying I have to buy it again?! Nothing else breaks when collected with the MM so why this?

*Not internet related lag. I put Steam into offline mode and disconnected my wi-fi, the game still lags.
** Minecraft does it, so does Terraria. No reason why Starbound can't do it either.

The tech console breaks when moved presumably because otherwise you could carry it with you and swap techs whenever you wanted to.

Why that is a bad thing I can't say.

    1. Because the manipulator has 3 very distinct modes:
    1. Dig/Break/Place things
    2. Painting
    3. Wiring
The icon of a pickaxe certainly describes the functionality of that mode much better than the image of the manipulator itself.

    2. Not sure what you mean, haven't really paid much attention to that tracking system yet.

    3. I actually never transfered something with drag and drop but as a tip, you can just shift click to quickly transfer items from containers to your inventory without removing them from your hotbar.

Because it is a representation of function, not form. Pickaxe just represents mining, like the paintbrush is for painting, the magnifying glass for inspection.

Good question. It would be nice if you could at least set it to track the newest quest picked up. But that would probably cause other issues.

Never tried this, but if I am thinking of it correctly, I'd guess it is because it somehow sees the stack as "new" when you do this. I'd report it as a bug.

I ahve not experienced this, so I am not sure. If you are certain you had selected the correct one, though, report it as a bug with as much information as you can gather for recreating the problem.

As the other poster said, I would imagine this is so you can;t easily change tech on the run. you would still be able to do it by carrying a spare console, but I don't know how practical that would be.

    1. It looks like a pickaxe so stupid people like me identify it as such.

    2. Beats me

    3. Beats me
    4. Same thing
    5. If you destroy it, use admin mode and spawn another?
    6. The game lags
It happens to all of us

Okay. Some help there. Bugs and niggles I guess. Still makes more sense to me if the manipulator icon looked like the manipulator. The paint and wire tools are selectable elsewhere on the hotbar. I'll mod it I think.

Thought I might re-create some of those bugs and post them on Youtube. I should have a backed-up save from before picking the tech upgrades so hopefully I can do it again (I back-up the storage folder each day to a different folder with the date as the folder name... best practice I think).

Think I'll stick to the tech console at the Outpost.

The hotbar isn't additional space and does not actually hold any items, what it is; is a shortcut to an item in your inventory, when you move that item, you break the link and since stackable items cannot have unique identifiers (like weapons), the hotbar does not know what item to try to re-establish the shortcut connection to and simply leaves the space vacant. That's how I understand it, anyways.
