I'm excited for the game, and I come here everyday to see all the cool stuff people do and find. I have a hard time sticking to my games for whatever reason. I'll dig down for a long time, collect ores, find camps, get new weapons - and then I just get bored. I've invested A LOT of time in Terraria and I don't seem to get this feeling of boredom when I start a new world/character. I've made the distress beacon but have not used it.

I totally know this is early beta, maybe I should just wait or something. The main reason why I think I lose interest, is because of how slow it starts. I so want to go deep into the game's content, explore new worlds and what-not but I can't get myself passed this damn copper pickaxe. :whaaat:

    Am I doing something wrong?

  2. Um yes. You are.

If you can't get a higher grade pick within 30 minutes of play... you are doing something horribly wrong.

Clisen, I somehow felt the same, howeer, I wanted to just get past Copper Pickaxe :p Trust me, it's worth the effort.

Just think about that if you are left in the woods, IRL I mean, you will never build a pickaxe, not even out of wood. The game has some realism moments, and I think that the slow start is a fair one :)

Trust me, it's worth going further than this. You gotta put some effort tho and remember, without exploration, you won't advance very fast.

It's not that I can't, it's that I get bored with the game for whatever reason.

I on the contrary can't get enough. I've already played for 173 hours and I'm still having a lot of fun. There's so much to explore and build and with friends online it's even better! I am really enjoying all the interaction with objects and the music ofcourse.
Even in the beginning of a new character I like the back to basics feeling.

  6. Then find another game to play. If you get bored that fast, then this is not the game for you in the slightest.

That's funny.... I enjoy being slow on Starbound and exploring everything it has to offer, but with Terraria I can barely get past Iron armour without falling asleep. :p

This is just dumb. There are no right or wrong ways of doing something in Starbound. It depends on the effort you put in.

Yeah, the coolest thing I found was when I killed Batman last week. I just need to stick with it and get past the hump at start.

Terraria has set goals for you to do. Starbound doesn't quite have any yet so it is a little difficult to get going. Once you do though you won't be able to stop. Just think of something you want to aim towards and work towards it.

You can begin exploring new worlds any time you like! You don't need to get farther than crafting a copper pickaxe to start visiting a bajillion different planets in the Alpha sector. Having better pickaxes makes mining faster, but you can still find tons and tons of coal easily on all of the first level planets!

Try taking a break from upgrading equipment to see a few more planets. By that time you'll probably be that much more excited to finish the tutorial quests and then you'll be able to progress with all the stuff you've found while exploring. Good luck!

Oh I was under the impression that I had to use the distress beacon and beat the UFO before I could get off the initial planet...

That happen to me too in terraria D:, the only thing there that exite me is go to the hell at low lvls and Sneak all the mobs getting rare chests, if the mobs catch me, i have to dodge or i get killed fast =P, that is fun, but once you reach the OP weapons is not fun anymore u_u

But here in starbound keep me exited what dungeon im going to find at each planet *-*

Nerp. You just need to beat him to get to the next sector. Millions of planets in the alpha sector are available to you right away, just need some fuel.

I think it's the opposite. Terraria gave you no goals. You just needed to kill some bosses, in order to get the best materials to craft the best weapons in order to kill the bosses again.

In Starbound you know exactly what to do: Complete these quests, being a beta, the full game will have much more quests. You also know who you are and something about your culture. In Terraria, you are a random human, spawned on the surface of a world by who knows who and you suddenly get attacked by some goblin army that seems to come out of nowhere. Zombies come out from nowhere at night. Suddenly, you come across an arms dealer who may be from Brooklyn and a man that quit his job at Hogwarts for some piece of adventure. Oh, let's not forget about the gorgeous lady that has been summoned to repair the dungeon's sewer systems.

    Please...

What I meant is that in Terraria you knew you had bosses that needed murdering so you could advance to the twilight mode and fight off murderous unicorns. I know Starbound has it's quest system but at this moment in development it isn't that solid. Thus making it a little difficult to gain momentum. I do agree though that Terraria really needed some explaining.

One of my issues I have currently, is that this cool spear I found that shoots stuff is only used linear. It's annoying not being able to jab the spear in a 360 direction.

Well, the starting quest and the lore you find acorss the game gives you some insight about what's happening. But as you said, it depends on you about what you are willing to do in the end, but you still get a direction.

The slow-down *shoulder slump* part of the game really comes from crafting Tier 2 boss requirements. It's a bit of a grind. I do echo above posters in that the NEED to defeat a boss ( what are they, what do they have, why is it important besides lewt!?!) will be fleshed out ingame and with lore/quests. I'd advocate for a codex drop on each boss. Imagine if the Tier 1 boss for example, was Penguin-kind's hope for reaching the star's and exploring alongside the other races. Except something went horribly wrong and a rogue faction took command of the saucer and decided to use it against other races. Or something. If you don't enjoy an occasional grind then I don't think many rewarding games out there will suit you. And sure, grinding for the sake of grinding, is trash and most people will see through it and call it what it is. But the game isn't finished and I think if Starbound is truly going to shine then everything..somehow..will come together. Besides. You haven't even made it to the peanut butter-jelly time boss fight. Keep on digging!
