I feel the game has been ruined.

They need to nerf these god damned monsters before i rip my hair out

I don't think calling OP a troll is fair. I also don't like how they changed many things and I'm free to say it. Everything seems a lot of easier now and less random. Getting rid of hunger, pickaxes or other survival stuff is a bad move in my opinion. I hope they'll bring them back.

They temporarily removed hunger while they devise a better system. As for pickaxes, they're still there, they work as temporal workarounds for a non upgraded matter manipulator. Just as it was expected, the endgame manipulator should be the best tool.

Hopefully I don't need to wait another year for the next major change then. xD

My version of survival-bound is about not crafting torches or bandages, intentionally grinding, or cheesing the game by carrying a bed or building myself safe-houses or bridges or ladders or anything like that out of blocks, instead opting for use of flashlight and climbing rope and my wits. Also I'm playing on normal mode so I have to be a little more careful about dying.

Maybe it's not exactly the same but it brings a lot of tension back into things.

Crafting a bunch of cheap pick axes to make levels 1, 2, and maybe 3 of the MM easier might be worth it though.

I couldn't be happier with the changes. Pickaxes are still crazy useful. 2 copper bars is VERY easy to get, and the copper pickaxe has a larger surface space and is WAY faster than the early Matter Manipulator. This feels perfect. It gives a use for a pickaxe, but only as stop-gaps until you get your MM upgraded. The ores and coal prior to this were stupid easy to find and made the game an absolute bore. Now it feels just about right.

Hunger was downright annoy as all hell, to be honest. A lot of us play games between running a family and getting other stuff done, or have interruptions during our game time. It's nice to be able to step away and not have to worry about starving. I find food is much better served as a buff (like a lot of MMOs). If they bring back hunger (hope they don't) then I really hope they implement some sort of "auto consume" feature. I could stomach it if I could load a food slot up and not have to worry about manually clicking to eat. Just take it for read that if I have food on my character he'll eat it.

Any rate, I'm not far (first planet), but I've started quite a few "first planets" and have never had ore/coal issues.

Only thing I wish they'd bring back (and I'm sure they will in some capacity) is repairing tools with ore. Even if we have to do it using the anvil.

Im sorry, but you have a great mining tool, wich never breaks, is able to detect ores by scanning the sorounding area, and is upgradeable in speed and area.

And you start seeing copper at, what, about 50 blocks deep?First plannet is chock full, and the mining tunnel you find on the first lannet yer iin also has a decent ammount of em in crates and such, along with some other goodies.

Pologies, but suck it up, and just go mining for what you need, after that, you can perfectly explore all you want.

This game has always struggled to appease its players. It goes back and forth from people who want a more terraria-like experience and people like me who want an alternative and less 'grindy' experience. I remember when people used to complain there was never a reason to dig (which was ridiculous) and now I guess they're satiated.

Regardless I still think there should be a skip tutorial sequence option, because I've done it a million times in nearly all its forms. But hey, at least I've tested it a lot and I still don't like it.

I believe the issue here is nothing more than a insufficient attention span. If you would mine long enough or search a mine dungeon you would find cave systems, which can lead pretty deep underground where you can find much more ores. In any case, you need to go deep underground to get the core fragments to repair your ship. Why not do the both at the same time, search for ore while you find your way to get the fragments. Anyway, since recipes are now cheaper you don't even need that much ore to progress.

While i can sympathize with people not liking mining (even if i myself kinda like exploring underground too), its at the same time not as bad as you make it.

As others have mentioned i highly recommend finding and looting the mine that allways seem to spawn on garden worlds and if you need additional ores after that (and to get core fragments) you can use said mine to get a jump start since it usally goes rather far down.

Later in the game you can get most of the ore's/bar's from chests by exploring a large number of planets.

    Honestly, you cant please everyone.

I thought that the entire idea of the original Starbound build was game ruining. If i can just walk the entire surface for all the ore I will ever need, then why would you ever have any sublayers?

This new way of doing it is SOOO much better to actually experience more of each planet's content.

    Digging= totally fine
Mining(which is the same as digging) = nuuu.....

Am I missing something? You do realize the vast majority of the planet you want to explore is in fact, below the ground and in the sky, both of which require the manipulation of materials to reach and search?

If you were just skimming the surface and calling that exploring then I don't know what to tell you, that's not even close to all a planet has to offer.

I understand your point and partially agree with it. There's nothing wrong with disliking changes, however, the way the OP went about expressing that is...less than ideal.

There is a fine line between digging a small hole from what you can see from the surface, and 100 feet.

I think one of the main issues is the caves underground are still not interesting enough yet.
I remember roaming massive cave networks in terreria there was no feeling of congestion.

Here the cave networks are small and if you rarely have enough room to dodge. Its way too in your face.
Probably because of the awkward default zoom level.

Well guess where the fuel is? As I said a huge amount of the planet has stuff below ground. Running along the surface can get a lot of stuff, but it can't get you everything in short order.

A couple of pickaxes can get you pretty far on your first planet.

Players don't want to bother digging down if the game gets boring.
You lose out on exploring the surface, fighting mobs, and finding chests.

    Adapt, persevere and overcome.

The game is likely not ruined (no that I'd know, mine no longer works) but your expectations and assumptions may be ruining it.
