I've been a MC player for years, on some pretty public servers with some pretty popular Youtubers. I've played Terraria after I've conquered everything, mining just for the sake of it to build limited, but beautiful buildings that have little purpose other than to fill time, and just to BUILD something. I've even knocked around Towns a while, and dabbled in smaller but kinda meh games.

I really really want Starbound. Craving it, desiring it... and every smidgen of information you lovely creators provide we denizens of the planetary masses makes me want it even more. But...

I want the game to be great,
So I don't mind the wait.
If it comes down to fate,
it'll roll in a bit late
    and in a fabulous state.
    Then we'll get to celebrate
    And create!

Anyway, yeah, I wouldn't really be worried. It is a fact that they are working on the game. Them not showing anything to us (they have been showing a tremendous amounts of screenshots through Twitter, still) is actually a good thing because it means that they're properly dedicated to working. More work, less show, as some people have mentioned.

From a video-maker's perspective, and one without a very powerful computer at that, I am very comfortable with them taking as long as they possibly can so that I have a sure chance at having a better computer by then xD End 2012/beginning 2013 is a pretty nice release date as well, if you consider it. October is almost over with.

A better question would be is 'I dont see how making this kind of game is possible.' With all of the things that/they are implement[ing/ed], it's hard for me to even see this come to life. That's why I'm SUPER excited for this game to see the impossible task that the devs put up. :)

think about it like this, if we make this game big and we spread this to our friends, we could help this game become an inspiration for other games to have as many monsters as this one and weapons and stuff... i mean just about every game could do it, they just choose not too :( (probably because for most 3D games it may not work the same, but if this game can do it, then so can every other 2D game)

Except 3D games can do it. Borderlands for example, I'm pretty sure Borderlands is also one of the games that made procedural generation a big deal. Early builds of the game even had the world procedurally generated to an extent.

They didn't just start adding content. They are just asking what kind of weapons people want extra so that they don't leave out any good ideas.
They had this picture posted a long while ago which features a meele weapon:

I am pretty sure that they are nearly complete and right now they are probably mostly putting finishing touches on it and checking over the whole thing for things they forgot to add in. I could be wrong, but from many of the screenshots they game seems to be already well developed. I know it's not coming out in October since there is only a week left, but I think the game may make a release later november/early december if we are lucky.

I need to play that.... I still haven't done it, anyways I think if all games did it, we would get higher quality/more fun in a game and I'd be more willing to pay their absurd prices...

I think they'll finish in 2012. They're not releasing their final version, the games going to get much much much better. Also, if the game isn't released in 2012, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

Oooo! gravity gun? Has this been announced before? or is this a first reveal?

EDIT: ok, found another reference by MollyGos yesterday, so this isn't the first time.

    Starbound
    Starbound is a patchwork quilt.
    The thread has been made,
Fabric Squares assembled in a pile,
Ready to be bound in place.

    There are pieces in between,
    That complement these articles,
They are the input of something great,
The crucial elements that seal its fate.

Though threads can split and twine,
    The Seasoned weavers work away,
To mend the mistakes and errors,
And work past the end of the day.

    Starbound is a project,
    One merged by many dreams,
    it cannot be rushed,
Thus would burst through the seams.

Got a little Brainstormy from the better poem above, to basically state that the community's input has a place between the content to make it what it will be. As well as to be patient, or else Tiy's dream along with Team Chucklefish's will not remain captured within the game.
We all would like to capture at least a good snapshot/essence of a dream in some way. (Or at least I do)

Tiy told about it in a decent bit of detail in the livestream. Instead of simply slapping down blocks, you place and move them with the gravity gun, and all the players can see the block as it moves across the scree, while youre deciding where to put it.

People will be disappointed because they are excited and impatient. That isn't anything any one of us can not relate to. We make our own expectations based on speculation...it's hard to avoid. Besides, I may be one of those that is 'disappointed' that it doesn't come out as early as I wanted, but I will still say it's better than an unfinished game. I am eager to get my hands on what I think the team is capable of---anything less than this would be the *true* disappointment.

This guy knows what he's talking about. If the devs have to push the release back a couple months (or more) into 2013, so be it. As some one who waited out the 12 years for StarCraft 2, I can handle a couple more months. And if it takes longer for the game to be finished, that just means the game will be that much more awesome.

I'm 18, and I honestly don't remember exactly when I got into Brood War. I definitely didn't start when I was 6 :p. But it was in elementary school, I'm thinking in 3rd or 4th grade. I just said 12 years because I'm not sure how long I actually waited for it, and 12 years is the time between the releases of Brood War and Wings of Liberty.
