I don't hate this game. Do you?

Look JUST LOOK at the state the forums are in right now. At the time I'm writing this, absolutely every thread in the front page is a complaint against the game. If we keep this up, we may get another Phil Fish situation upon us.

So I would like to thank all the devs for their hard work, and the amazing game they have made

it's because people hate change. Personally, I think the game is running much smoother now, faster load times, etc. the devs are doing a great job with the game, and people need to remember it IS still in beta. If you want it to be PERFECT, wait a year and come back. :) until then, keep exploring and finding random stuff!

Please don't shrug off actual criticism with simple over arching statements, regardless of whether you agree or not people are entitled to voice their opinions. There are real flaws in the game as it is now, deep gameplay flaws. What we really need is the beta discussion sub-forum back. Anyway, yes the devs have done a lot of hard work, but I know for one I can pour days into something and it can still suck, it's up to my end users to give me feedback.

Just looking over the complaints most of them are valid. Just to name a few:
Giant meteorites with no warning or protection - While likely to get fixed, is still a valid complaint, they probably should have added protection in before the massively destructive force.
Forced PvP - Not everyone likes PvP, forcing it takes control away from server admins on their own servers, which is always a horrible idea.
General gameplay complaints - These are the same complaints that have been around since beta launch, i.e that pixels are slow and grindy, that progression is horribly linear. People are upset because the devs have shown no sign of improving it except stating the tier system is temporary.

At the end of the day, if you have that many complaints about your product it is probably quite likely that your product is the problem not the people. Whether that be the order in which you've implemented planned features, or gameplay choices. I want to see Starbound reach its potential, and I know Chucklefish are capable of that, but I for one think the current direction is really damaging the enjoyability of the game and it's rather annoying to see people just dismiss complaints as being entitled like that's some stink word. Yes, people are entitled to criticise something they have paid for, that's part of being a consumer.

Also Phil Fish is a childish douche, he made one game and acts like he is the gaming industry. Chucklefish have more integrity than that man child.

Disclaimer: This thread isn't likely to go anywhere nice anytime soon, but I implore people to keep it civil.

You're more likely to hear about what people dislike than what they like. That goes for pretty much everything where someone can have an opinion.

Human nature. Things you don't like are -10, things you do like are +1. Guess which ones people are more likely to remember?

Also, as Elate said, there is plenty of good, constructive feedback. Sure it's drowned out by all the stupid blathering and "internet debate," but it isn't too hard to find.

I wouldn't say that Forced PVP is the worst thing to happen ever, but I would say that PVP itself is very polarizing, and polar opposites don't make for good feedback or discussion.

Me? I think the devs are on the right path, but it won't be a short trip. They've added the ability to craft shields, that's awesome. Hopefully guns are next. They've added more dungeons, more weapon types, more monster types, and given a quick pass at combat balance. Great progress.

I really think they should put out some time to harness the destructive powers of meteors, or at least put a few warning signs in, but I suspect this will heavily involve core engine changes to the world generation (make meteor weather planets have meteorite / moondust on surfaces, but then the worldgen needs to come AFTER weather pattern usage, which is kinda backwards). I suspect this is why they haven't done that yet. I also suspect that a MeteorShield object would be very, very difficult to make.

I think they're doing great, and making good progress, but we're not there yet. No problems here, since we're still in Early Beta, but I think a lot of the gaming community do not understand what a real Beta is, they're just used to the AAA "Beta" promotional picnic events.

In short - valid criticism is good, stupid moaning and repeating what've been already said a thousand of times isn't.
I don't play the game at the moment but I like it and I like what the developers are doing, that's why I'm supporting this game and the community =3

Truthfully, a lot of the gaming industry doesn't seem to understand the meaning of a real beta, since this very much is not. True betas are meant to be feature complete. Currently I would call stage 3 the "true" beta of Starbound, if it goes according to plan. Stage 1 feels far more like an alpha with features still being added.

Not to say that's a bad thing, I quite enjoy seeing how the game evolves with each update. I just think it's highly unhealthy the way people like to put each other in isolated camps. Though I guess that's just human nature in general. Oh dear, this is getting too deep now.

Why is it that we can't go more than a couple of days without a grandstanding thread like this.

This forum has less illegitimate whine than most other video game forums yet it will still see plenty of threads like this that serve as coming out parties for those who have rose above the common rabble and became the righteous unbiased fanboys they are.

You can make the same points without using incendiary language, you know. It's generally more conducive to discussion, which we were having here.

Not saying you don't have a point, but 1) ditch the attitude, and 2) sometimes it's nice to see a positive post, after all the negative ones.
