I don't care about the new ships, anyone else?

This is the update that's been keeping me from playing.

In this game, your ship IS your home, and I've really needed more room (I've killed my crew accidentally more times than I can remember).

My ship could be the size of an escape pod or the size of a solar system, it doesn't matter at all to me if there is nothing to do in game.

I couldn't have said it better myself. This game will go down in history as one of the core reasons why early access gaming is DUMB. If you love helping fix bugs, become a game developer. Most gamers just want to play a fun, complete game. I hope CF will prove me wrong......but I doubt it.

I went off to play other games...

"Starbound is the spiritual successor to Terraria" Hype Hype Hype...
I hope I'm wrong as well, but at least I got my copy for free from Tiy (one of his reddit giveaways).

I think I just might just wait till the game is completely finished before playing it really, even with the ships upgrades. The biggest thing this game has is exploration... but the more I see, the less there really is... I start to notice all the little "parts" and "pieces" used to construct each settlement, or monster, or gun.

There's a lot of guns, but there's only so many bullets.
There's a lot villages, but they all look the same.
There's a lot of jungles, but they're only a different color...

If any of you know of Totalbiscuit, he recently shut down his P.O. box to avoid gifts from developers to help avoid becoming bias. If TB felt it was best to do that, it makes me question early access even more so indirectly. Even if the developers aren't consciously aware of it, perhaps early access may make them a bit lazier.

  6. I think the opposite is true, It makes the players more aware of how slow the development process really is. I have no doubt that (before the move mind you) they were working as hard as ever and the only reason people are acting like this is because they want more than the team can possibly give.

Well, they fit the general aesthetics of races waaay better, so I totally like them!

I like the new designs, also a poll would have been nice to see if the community at large thinks on the subject.

I'll admit to being a little underwhelmed by the 'news' on ship progression and I share your frustration with the need more information. Seems like a cheap filler.. but its better than no news I suppose.

Well it is good that they reworked the hyotl design. It was stereotypic as hell.

Well they (the developers) were INCREDIBLY pressed to make their game asap for this conference or something along those lines.

“To achieve great things, two things are needed: a plan and not quite enough time.” - Leonard Bernstein
Chucklefish now has your money, and more time.
Before the pre-order, they didn't have quite a lot of money, not a lot of time, but a whole lot more pressure to make the game.
Stress and pressure may not be good for the individual, and can be taxing on the person, but desperation can create very amazing things.

But this is off topic, so back onto the ships.
I personally am a fan on the improved looks of the Floran ships, I find the addition of "stolen tech" to be fitting.
Now I hope they can create a permanent universe next, then I can start building on a planet without the fear of it exploding.

I wouldn't consider ship upgrades to be the thing I'm most looking forward to, but it's no biggie to me. We already know they aren't only working on ship upgrades, so I just know that since this is relatively almost complete, they'll be able to move on to something I care more about or perhaps finish something that needs some extra backup help.

I'm not into most of the ship designs. I'd prefer ships that are more homeworldy. But I think it's just the general art direction of the game. Feels less and less like I can take the game seriously and if I can't take the game seriously I can't really enjoy the designs or lore or anything. So no, I didn't really care.

I care about the major changes.

The new ships are a nice addition, and I just hope (and once again trust the devs words) that they are not slowing down anything relevant in the process. And I assume they aren't, since coders and graphics are different roles.

So yeah, IF what I'm assuming is correct, I don't get the whole "I don't care" attitude, or at least being vocal about it. They're just saying, they are hardly treating it as a groundbreaking major change in the game. If you don't care about this, what did you want to hear from the news? I doubt there's anything that they could say that hasn't been said for now?

I don't either. I don't really care for the ship system. I'm holding my breath for gameplay mechanics. Being able to claim land, start factions, customize planets, server-side clients and server-side modded content, server tools, the dungeon master system (I forget the name) and things of that nature. The ships already prevent us from ever having to build on any planet since we can store everything in the ships. We don't have to leave any of our possessions on planets and we have no reason to care about them. Making them more enticing seems like it's just going to worsen that. We need reasons to care about colonization, not more reasons to not colonize. It doesn't bother me that they're making the ships better, it bothers me that they're making the ships better but haven't said anything about planet colonization mechanics recently.

I want to see more done to allow us to make a homebase in the universe and have to maintain it, upkeep, territory, claim blocks. Ships detract from that notion. They are a roaming homebase. We can build on planets already, but why should we?

Not something I really care about one way or the other. I like building my home on planets b/c it makes exploring feel worthwhile when I find a planet I like. It's better than nothing I guess.

all i care about is that our actual home is getting more space for us decorate and live in.
so it's pretty nice in my opinion, not really neccessary but still nice.

Man, i think you hit the nail on the head there. When one has over a million dollars just handed to them in good faith, a person with poor discipline will start to unravel.
Or its because of the move like everyone keeps saying, but there is such a thing as work visas and working over seas without moving. When you return to your country, you pay the tax on your income and move on. In this day in age its silly to move to another country to make video games. Making video games is not like building a stone wall when it comes to needing to be on site to get work done. The devs can say what they want about money problems with working out of country, and needing everyone to be in the same room and on the same work schedule, but none of those things seem to be problems for any other industry. Factory workers seem to be able to do rotating shifts, and skilled trades can go overseas to work for 6 months or so, so I say its laziness and lack of discipline that is grinding things to a crawl. And it just needs to be the poor performance of one important member to muck everything up.
    Take that whack, dead horse!

I think one of the reasons why Tiy wants everybody in England with him is because he wants to make Chucklefish a real video game company, much like Notch did with Mojang.

Since Tiy did say he intends on releasing updates for the game at least a year after the final release, it implies to me they will move on to future projects.

While I like the ship progress system idea, and some of the new ships look cool, I like to build my own ships more.

The big thing that did hold my attention to this game (for a lot longer) was the ship building mods. That alone probably tripled the playability for me.

I also like to build towns and other such things on planets, kinda' like a home world, if you will. I don't want a ship that is a space plantation. Unfortunately, the potential for world wipes have put a halt on this for me.
