I can't stop cheating

I know this might seem a little bit weird, but please just listen :)

So I recently discovered that you can type /admin ingame and you become invincible and have unlimited resources. I regret discovering this because now I can't keep myself from taking the easy way and type the command to go wherever and build whatever I want.

I'd really like to play the game like it's supposed to be played, but I just can't stop myself from cheating whenever there is something that requires alot of work or if things just doesn't go my way.

Is there anyway to have this command removed? Like a modification or something? Because of this ithe enjoyment is gone and it's not as fun anymore since I just can't stop myself.

Hopefully I'll get some serious answers. Thanks!

Get a rubber band. Put it around your wrist. Every time you use /admin pull on the rubber band and have it snap your wrist hard.

The serious answer is: open the starbound.config file. Edit "allowAdminCommands" : true to false. Next time you launch it will inform you that admin mode is disabled.

I'm honestly having the same problem LOL
I was playing the game just fine, having frustrations over the challenges, but then feeling good when I finally beat them
Then I remembered the /admin command and I only wanted to use it to design my ship's interior easily... and I've become a lazy bum
I just cheated through the last quarter of the game, I even beat the LAST BOSS with the /admin command running, so... I sort of ruined the ending for myself? I just kept telling myself there's no way I'd be able to beat the bosses without cheats... so I kept cheating...
I was playing on casual, so all I would've lost from dying would've been pixels (and maybe a little sanity) and now I just really regret remembering the /admin command
I'm planning on making a new character and playing totally vanilla, I guess you could try that? Since I had cheated so much on the other one, I just couldn't get myself to stop...
(I might still use the /admin command for ship decorating on that character though icantstopmyself)

I haven't cheated much, I've only used it to explore planets without having to get fuel, and I wanted to create a base but that's when I wanted to stop myself.

Well, you did better than I did... I went all out with cheating LOL at least you kept it pretty restricted
I play on a laggy laptop, so the boss battles were always hard for me, and using the /admin command was just too tempting
Now I'm just going to make a new character with a different race, and try not to ruin the experience for myself this time
Also I don't think you should feel to bad for using the command to make a base? Making large structures takes lots of materials, and getting those materials can be stupid hard, like searching tons of planets just for a specific cabinet or something. But I guess that's what furniture vendors are for...
Oh well, good luck with not cheating. I'm going to try to use my willpower to stop, but if that fails I'll disable it like the other person mentioned.

Wow, when the Devs read this & realize they forgot to take that Command out of the game before Full Release they're gonna blush in embarrassment so hard...

I honestly didn't start cheating until I started building; as I found out many assets are no longer lootable (like the prison graffitis). However, I know well it ain't easy to let it go...

I don't mind the /admin commands being left in, as currently the game does not have the equivalent of a creative mode, and for people that just want to build on the epic scale often need so many of something it gets absurd. We are talking 10+ inventories worth of potentially a rare or hard to get block for some peoples builds. Imagine needing that many Geode Blocks which can only be found in the often small geode mini-biomes that most commonly show up on high tier planets.

I just choose never to use them, ain't that difficult tbh.

So they didn't want this command for the public to use at all?
For some people that's easy to do, but others its a bit harder.
    Good luck to you too!

I'm really tempted to after spending days trying to finish the Alpaca suit, visiting hundreds of Snow planets in search of it.

But an Alpaca is not a true Alpaca unless it is found through hard work!

I'll use /admin mode when I feel like building large structures, kind of like a creative mode.

In your storage folder in your starbound folder.
There will be a file called starbound.config - open it with windows notepad.

There will be a parameter - allow admin commands - put it as false.

Admin command is there for mod developers and people who want to build things \ acquire things without the hassle of finding them. For those tempted can just disable it in config.

Fair point. Crystal Blocks also come to mind as well, especially colored in my fav color of Blue. :) (Though some of us are nuts enough to do ambitious builds like that... me included. In Minecraft I Mine tons of Netherrack, Mass Produce it into Nether Brick Blocks, & build large Underground Bases with them, which also means mass Underground Mining.)

I haven't heard any official word on it, but directly for reasons the OP talks about, it's extremely common for Devs to not let their Full Release Players be able to succumb to the temptation to make themselves Gods & ruin their own gameplay experience. If the Starbound Devs are an exception to this, that'll be an... well... interesting decision on their part. :p

    JUST SAY NO.
