I planned to build a zoo around a planet but when I throw my capture pods inside my cages the creatures is noclipping through the wall and follows me. Is it possible in anyway to make the cratures stay put in their cages?

We can always tell the devs we want a sit command when we middle click them or something. Since the only way Minecraft dogs/cats don't TP to you is when they sit down.

Wow, yeah, there needs to be some sort of leash and or sit command. Though I'd want them to wander around in their cages, maybe a stay command that makes them only wander a certain block radius? It could also be used for guard dogs? Maybe a guard command or something where they will patrol the grounds. Idk. I love the zoo idea that's cool!

They could always make a marker system like wiring. Add a telepathic beacon of sorts that you use with a tool, and wire to a pet.

  5. I think a leash item would work best, something the player could tether to a block or a specific item and could give the leash however much slack he/she want to.

It is possible, not with the existing creaturepods though. A mod would be needed to add a new type of pod that would spawn monsters that won't follow players.
Edit: Spec Ops suggested that I would add something like this to my mod SmartPet. I guess it won't hurt to have something that cool added ;)

Spec Ops and Tweak like this.

I like simple solutions, and XspeedPL beat me to it. Adding features/mechanics for one reason is messy, because you have to think about everything else, too.

I'm not saying the interest in sit commands isn't valid - it will probably be explored on its own merits. As for getting a desirable behavior for a zoo, though, the practical thing to do is have different pods for different functions.

The upside is that this new pod would probably appeal to some people for uses other than just the zoo.

And although it's not especially important: for the record I also was thinking I might build a zoo for my "end game."

So, I'm gonna need suggestions about "zoo mode" behavior.
Should I disable jumping? Running? Aggro states?
Possible feeding? Specific environment needs: walls/fences, floor?
    Room detection? Other things? Mating?

Tell me what should be in, and what shouldn't.
Maybe a separate thread for this?

I'd say it should behave exactly like it already does minus all aggro. That way, in addition to just a cage, you can build an enclosure and the pet would still walk around and jump and whatnot.

    Ok...

    Suggestions for "zoo mode"

First and foremost: "New type of pod that would spawn monsters that won't follow players." - or similar feature...

Perhaps you could add a new item to the game like some sort of feeding tray. This items feature would be to keep creatures in their cell. It will only work in closed rooms in sizes between 5x5 to 50x50 tiles (ex. 5x32 would also be okay for the item to work)
You could use the 'haystack' model already ingame as a model for a feeding tray :)

About behavior... in the start it would be perfectly fine id the creatures could run back and forth and jump.
but in the future it would be cool to have differend behavior modes. Sleeping, angry, crazy behavior.

Things like the material the cells are made of could have some sort of impact... Switches that are connect with wiring that controlls behavior pr cell... Mating... There are many ideas. But I dont want to drown you.

Thank you for concidering adding this to your already AWESOME mod!
