Your complaining the game is not finished - because they reached their money goal?
Then say you will only come back when its finished?
Coding is not a factory -> they can't press buttons and code spinets appear.
Takes time with trial and error.

    Logic FTW!

    P.S
Don't buy games in development in the future.
Its highly likely you will only face the same issues, and rewrite the same complaints in some other game forum.

I once backed a kickstarter program. They hit the sale goal by many folds, and delayed the shipment for almost a year. Oh wait, it's the pebble "smart" watch with a lot of feature unimplemented.

So, yes. People might be worried about the same thing happen to Starbound. And you shouldn't blame them.

The problem is Kickstarter - you are not buying a product. You are investing in one. Quite fundamentally two different things.
Investments hold the risk of never coming intro fruition. Its basically gambling. If you don't like to gamble - you should avoid doing it. Not blame the Casino.

Starbound is an early access. It's also an "investment" you mentioned.

Hes not being silly, hes frustrated at the slow development of this game and the poor communication. Lately it seems devs are able to create a half baked shell and sell it using a trailer that clearly shows more than whats in the game.

I am starting to think that kickstarter/beta/alpha games extend the beta/alpha stage to continue to draw in more money while doing little work, any criticism gets shrugged off with "we said it was beta".

A few examples of permanent beta/alpha

    Project Zomboid
    Starforge
    Towns

The problem is people shouldn't be expecting developments in weekly basis. If you can't wait for monthly updates never buy games in development.
Games spend 2 - 3 years in a development cycle. The first year - which is not even counted is a proof of concept prototype

I dont want to sound like a fanboy or anything, but do so many people really not know how much work it takes to setup a game ?

Guys its not like you just have to change a 2 into a 3, sometimes 1 problem can cause a complete restart of the code and sometimes the error hides itself very well.
If you have superpowers that let you see every error at once feel free to tell people, that might be of use.

Also we are in Stage 1 where harder stuff like engine changes and codes will be worked on which is by far one of the more time eating parts.
Cmon people, what if everyday a random person would come to you at work and yell stupid stuff ignoring that you are doing a decent job ?

Unfortunately that's pretty much how the whole IT industry works at the moment. People you are trying to help expect you to have to power, speed and omnipotence of god, but treat you like crap.

People also make the mistake that making a game is simple as coding/creating what needs to be done. Asides from the bug squashing (Which is a huge part), creation is not a linear process

You have concepts to develop, prototype, and trial. Designs to be approved and passed to the appropriate department - testing and tweaking mechanics until they feel right, collecting user feedback. The first implementation of a mechanic is rarely the final implementation, itteration, itteration, itteration is the name of the game. All in all games typical require tens if not hundreds of thousands of man hours of work.

Then of course there is unexpected turns of event that may require derailing the planned development path temporarily.

I find it surprising that a lot of people don't seem to grasp how Alpha and Beta stages for videogames work, even when we've had a huge surge of games that allow you to play them during these stages. Obviously, each game is different, but game development takes a really, really long time. Minecraft's development, for example, started on the 10th of May is 2009. It went through a little over a year of pre-alpha development before hitting Alpha on June 28, 2010. That lasted until December 20, 2010, when the game hit beta. Beta lasted almost another whole year of development until it hit Full Release on November 18, 2011.

Starbound's early beta, imo, is closer to a late alpha; the level of missing content and frequency of technical issues feels more like an alpha, but it's still fairly solid at the moment so calling it beta isn't going to be much of an issue for me. Now, being at this point of development, what a lot of people don't get is this:

Playing an Alpha or Beta is strictly inferior to playing the finished product. It is missing features, it is buggy, it is unfinished. The reason open betas exist is so that the developer can get feedback, a wider testing pool, and earlier criticism on the game than they would if it was all done internally. Open Betas don't exist so you can get and play the game sooner, because you're not really getting the whole game. That's the entire point; the whole game isn't there yet and they want some outside assistance with making sure it'll be up to scratch later. If you do not like the environment of an alpha or beta game product, LEAVE IT ALONE AND COME BACK LATER.

It will still be here when you get back.

Geeez, people, are your content update drawbacks seriously so strong you have to do this?! Their speed is above subpar at worst, plus you do realize they got many things to implement, and implement properly and bugtest is to make sure they made it better. Code doesn't just get written without any issues.

Also, vous devriez avoir honte d'un tel comportement réactionnaire, vous les développeurs de la menace du jeu comme du bétail! Désolé pour le mauvais français, I est de vous moquer.
