This will be a multi-part story updated in intervals. Every other chapter will be a flashback of sorts; usually restricted to one per character. Wayne muttered various expletives under his breath. Sighing and twirling around in his desk chair, he examined his surroundings; he was enclosed inside a hunk of air-tight titanium with various furnishings that had been tossed aside in the incident. Wayne would call it a trash heap. Everyone else called it a spaceship. Looking out the window, he tried to lighten the mood by inspecting the stars. He remembered looking up at these very stars when he was little. How he loved that little twinkle they released when you looked at them just like the way, almost as if to say, “Hey! I'm a star! Thanks for watching me!” A small, nostalgic smile spread across his face for only an instant before defaulting back to a pessimistic scowl. Wayne was a scientist. More precisely, Wayne was an astronomer. From a young age he felt almost like his life was connected, bound to those little lights in the sky every night. Even in years of teenage angst and depression, the stars understood him. Wishing on stars had become childish for everyone else, but he still lay in the grass, watching intently for the very first one. Once, he found a girl who shared his interests. Emily wanted to be a pilot. She longed to soar through the sky like the birds she saw. A daredevil at heart, she was never afraid to explore new ideas and try something new, even if it risked serious injury. They used to meet up on weekends and fly her “new” remote-control biplane together. They weren't very good, as more than often one of them would crash into a tree, accidentally or purposely, and destroy most of the plane. What they were good at was being a pit crew. That was all gone now. They were all dead, including her. He couldn't even try some wishful thinking, as he had seen her die. Wayne had seen her bloody, mangled corpse fall to the ground. He had seen entrails spiraling out of one wound and entering another, and he had seen Emily reach out to him in her dying moment. He had no one to blame but himself. They had destroyed anything and everything they could for no reason whatsoever. A violent and masochistic race of daunting villains hellbent on destruction. Who knew if they even had a motive? This could just be their sick form of recreational activity. “I'm dead.” Wayne sighed. “I'm as dead as anyone back there. There isn't any food here, there's no water source...I'm dead.” The ship rocked and shook before stabilizing. Picking himself up from the ground, Wayne stared out of the window in awe. He was being pulled in by a tractor beam. From here, he could see the murky surface of a planet surrounded by rings. It wasn't Saturn, though; it was dyed a dull purple and surrounded by stardust, most likely coming from the celestial bodies that seemed to explode when near the planet's orbit. It certainly wasn't a planet he knew. A living, breathing being, alien or not, was out there and wanted him. With the thought returned the smile.
Lead characters? I'd say there will be about 4-6 VERY central characters. I plan on a decent amount of minor people as well.
Oh ffff... this story's title in Latin is Veni Vidi Vici. I'll bet you can tell what that reminds me of.
