Yes but with those extra people means extra people buying Starbound and supporting Chucklefish you can never select the people you want to play your game your always going to have idiots playing, but with more copies sold means more time Chucklefish can stay with Starbound and theres always going to be dedicated servers and clans will probably have theres own dedicated server.

How would it make them popular? I guess if the game really picked up, but I'd rather spread Starbound's popularity further, not my own. That's just using Starbound for your own selfish purposes, which is exactly what this thread isn't about.

The sad truth is, that such people aren't just being summoned from the magical lamer-land. There are a few always around. Probably even now there some like that waiting for the game. It's what you get when you make Starbound also accessible for such players. Still, in this particular case it's balanced by funding and support for the game and the game would certainly use such. Not to mention the fact that majority of the community will probably play on either whitelisted or completely private servers. I plan to.

That being said I would hope for some really decent users with firm grasp of written language including it's nuances such as punctuation to spread the information about the game and while the cause of Liquidified is noble, he already lost in my eyes by asking for likes and so on. It's disrespectful and suggests ulterior motives as in 'I do what I do for recognition and praise'.

Anyway, Starbound would use publicity, it would use support. Idea's sound no matter what kinds of people it may draw (I dread to think what new horrible threads will show up :p). On the plus site, I think that not only bad sort may be interested and the community should still have some space for growth.

It isn't really using it for our own selfish purposes, someone that gained popularity for playing Starbound would be more inclined to continue with it (and with the procedural generation there is really no reason not to continue), where as someone who is already popular would do like 5 episodes where most of their usual clientèle moan about how they aren't doing the usual thing in the comments (e.g. Yogscast).

I know you are getting at spreading the good word but a lot of youtubers would not do it the justice it deserves having already achieved their aspirations of popularity.

Also, about the comment of using it for your own selfish purposes, that would be exactly what the large figures do. They would show something new and original and then when they drop it after a few episodes the hype is gone.

And if you are talking about all the guys like hero that did terraria, I had never heard of them before I came here and upon hearing about them I really wasn't interested in what they had to offer. Hero is actually the only one I can remember the name of at this point and that is only because he is an asshat.

It isn't making fun of them, it is just the truth about most of their fanbase and how they react to games.
They do about 5 episodes of a new game and then never mention it again, all the while they are bombarded with SOI comments. I mean I want SOI as much as the next guy, and it's not like they haven't already filmed it because to be honest it isn't that hard to make (Plus they already have the footage at the end of the last video for the "next SOI" part).

Just because they don't always play a game? People that don't vary in content are the ones that go stale, and I know PBat and SlyFox still play Terraria here and there, EVEN after PBat did about 20+ episodes showcasing the entire game pre-alpha.

I'm not saying some new, fresh off-the-block kid can't go and commentate the game to try and get the word out, but I think someone with skill and the mass appeal should be the one to do it. Also, PBat was ASKED by Redigit to show off the game, and he did it and didn't ask for anything in return.

I had never heard of Pbat until you mentioned it in this thread, but that is not the point.
I acknowledge that people that cover the same content can go stale but would argue that; with the information we have about Starbound at the moment we can assume that it will be emphasising the replayability meaning that it will be a long time before it does go stale, also my point would be that they are not popular solely for Starbound but that seeing as it is new they could generate some hype for themselves and in future go on to do other things having caught a break.

Also it would be correct that someone with the "mass appeal" would generate more hype about the game, but that is simply because they have the "mass appeal" in the first place. What I had said was that I would prefer to give someone fresh the chance to make it big in the business that is youtube rather than shoot straight to those who are already influencia, but in the end it is none of our decisions anyway and I was simply stating my opinion.

Finally the fact that PBat was ASKED by Redigit to show off the game is irrelevant, he still gained the popularity off the back of it. From my own ignorance I can assume that he was already popular before showing off Terraria and I can assume that showing off the game only increased his popularity greatly because he was given the opportunity to show something that nobody else had the privilege to show. If it turns out that he was actually a small channel that rose to fame (?) from showing Terraria then that correlates with what I would like for a new channel in the showing of Starbound.

As I have said, in the end it is none of our decisions and people will show what they want. It is inevitable that some big channel will take all the hype from small channels because it means slightly more money and a slightly larger fanbase for them, Youtube is a rough world, kill or be killed.

Idk what it is with you and all of this YouTube money, popularity gain, etc. I'm thinking solely for the benefit of Starbound, so we have two different views. And I don't think one game would give someone any advantage in popularity. After all, the purpose wasn't for him to gain the Terraria forum fans (which didn't even exist at the time), but to spread the word of Terraria and bring it where it was.

Anyways, this will be my last response. I only want what's best for Starbound, I could really care less if a big Youtuber's scheme was to somehow benefit out of it. I'm not saying small Youtubers can't make videos, but if we're talking what would really benefit Starbound, and not the person, it would be with someone who has influence in the very large community.

it seems a large number of modern-day gamers have the mental state of graphics over gameplay, but I find that even if it looks 100% like real life, if it had a story about as good as 'kill random shit because enemy', I'd never play it, and play something like starbound instead.

    also, first post, so hallo!

Don't forget, you get the people that are like "OMG, THIS SUCKS, YOU SHOULD JUST STICK TO MINECRAFT LULULULULULULUL"

To be honest, I don't want Pewdiepie to end up making videos for it (even if it'd get it a lot of attention), because if someone else makes a video about it, there is no doubt that Pewdie's fans will flat out insult them for 'copying him'.
