    I agree the coverage so far has been pretty good, I feel as youtubers get press copies. Then when the game is released I feel pretty good about the chances of hype similar to terraria and maybe even on the level of minecraft.

    That million dollars? There's your hype right there, the money talks loud and clear. This game has been in the dreaded soon™ zone for a long time now, that people (myself included) are still interested shows how well they've managed to keep us that way.

    1-2 million is still a (comparatively) tiny production budget. Even a small team can blow through that in a couple years.

    If you're thinking hype on the scale of a world-wide triple-a release...it just can't happen off that kind of budget. For comparison, when Battlefield 3 came out, it's estimated that the combined money spent by EA and Activision that year, just on Battlefield and Call of Duty advertising, totaled somewhere around $400 million U.S.

    That's okay though, and there's no need to worry about Starbound being a success or failure, because as others above have said, it doesn't rely on that kind of advertising. You're not going to see tv commercials, massive displays in game stores, or ads popping up every day on major gaming sites.

    Instead you'll have friends telling each other about this awesome new game and LP videos drawing in tons of interested new people.

    "U mad?" isnt a lack of knowing the other person is mad. It's a provocation.

    For example, I make you mad by constantly arguing against you and trolling you. You get angry and post something that clearly shows the anger. I respond by asking "U mad, bro?" to further provoke your rage. TROLLING 101!

    I said this somewhere else on the forums but I'll say it here too, when the game comes out on Steam it will get A LOT of attention. Trust me, if your game is featured on the front page you are literally guaranteed sales. And everyone that bought Terraria WILL watch the trailer and they will feel compelled to buy it for all the features it has. I honestly believe this game has the potential to completely blow up in a good way.

    The hype seems to ebb and flow, at least from what i've noticed. People have been wanting the game for a long time now so there's cycles

    I suppose my question would be, why should we put up with it? Seems like these days, people have become apathetic to asshats on the internet because it's the norm, even if they dislike it. Lots of places are beyond hope, sure, but I don't think this is such a place from what i've seen.

    Edit: Apologies for the off topic, this shit just bugs the crap out of me. On a more hype-related note, I think because of the time frame of development involved, there's not being any maintained effort at hype because it would be way too exhausting to keep it up for this long.

    Kinetic Hype or Kh = (d Δ T)*(Ph * ƒ)²

    Where d = time game was discovered
    T = current time
    Ph = potential hype
    ƒ = number of followers

    The measurement for Kinetic Hype is called a "Crouton"
    Good in soups apparently

    Now I'm confused o_O
    I have the "Cloud to Butt Plus" extension that translates "cloud" to "butt", so did he type "Starcloud" or actually "Starbutt"?

    there's been huge amounts of hype for this game, but it died down over time. closer to release/beta it will probably come back.
