I have one problem with the Hylotl. Their axes aren't axes. They're Scythes. This makes no sense at all. 1: Every other race makes axes. 2: Scythes are not designed as weaponry. These scythes are as effective as Battle axes. 3: The Hylotl cultural style is Feudal Japan. Japanese people did not use scythes. So instead of scythes, I present an additional option: The Ono, which is an axe and was actually used in Japan. I thought it would fit much better. Thoughts?
Oooh, now that's extremely pretty. Given the lack of Hyotl content missing, it is very likely if not more than possible that things will get augmented and changed. We're still in a very fluid beta state. Just wait for the homeworlds to get added... and then we'll find out!
As a fellow Hylotl player, I really don't think that weapon design variety is a bad thing. The fact that everyone else has axes doesn't mean we can't have scythes. And I'm reasonably certain the developers had http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kama_(weapon) in mind when choosing scythes for us. There's also the fact that the Japanese don't live underwater, but the Hylotl do. Maybe they actually do use scythes in combat - I imagine you could hook dangerous sea creatures with them pretty easily. ...And now I'm thinking of Dune, with how they rode the giant worms with climbing hooks. ...Aaand now I'm thinking of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hook_sword... Yeah, my main concern, in fact, is that the Hylotl weapons are too plain. I mean honestly, how many different interesting katana designs can you come up with? Why not some hook swords, or something else? If you say "because hook swords are Chinese, and the Hylotl are Japanese", look at this: I still wish one of the Hylotl spears would be a monk spade: As things are now, I think the most interesting Hylotl weapon tier is Cerulium. Their Violium weapons are all either purple/black or purple/gold, which was kind of disappointing after the cyan/blue/red/gold Cerulium weapons. And then I got to the Impervium weapons, and the one-handed weapons were more katanas and the two-handed weapons were wooden sticks with black metal and skull decorations, which didn't seem to fit the race at all. I find it especially annoying that the two tridents the Hylotl have access to look more devilish than anything else. The Hylotl are an aquatic race with an Asian-inspired culture. Aquatic, okay, Poseidon. Tridents, yeah. Everyone gets that. But in Asia, historically, they would use tridents to catch the tigers that would terrorize villages. They'd brace the end against the ground and raise the weapon's head when the tiger pounced, and the tiger would get forked. They literally called them "tiger forks". That's awesome. So like. Poseidon, and killing tigers, and Hylotl tridents look like Halloween props. faskldfjas
