1) Hunting When you kill a mob, his body stays put. After a minute or two, other mobs come near the body for food (Small mobs remain remote if you are near, but large predators can be a serious danger if you leave the body lying around). The body will turn into skeleton after about an hour, and disappear 50 minutes later (with a maximum limit of corpse). The corpse may be butchered. The skin thus obtained can be used to make clothing (leather), or as decorations (which has never dreamed of having a skin carpet in Starbound?). The animal can be naturalized to serve as decoration. The skeleton will be recovered and used as decoration (or to turn it into fertilizer). The body may be moved (with physics), depending on its size (one vehicle is required for larger). It may also be stored in a tank of formaldehyde, in a laboratory, to learn all about this case (and why not discover that [NAME OF MOB] has a regeneration gene, and thus be able to use it) The corpses of these mobs can be used as bait to attract other mobs, rare, or impossible to see without using bait. This also applies to fishing with bait varied can attract fish (and various fishing rods / harpoons) It should be noted that the possibilities mentioned above may work with ALL mobs (even humanoid mobs), with some exceptions. _ The mechanical mobs will stay, broken, and you can get their parts (they will not attract scavengers, and they will disappear after 60 minutes instead of 110) _ The mobs such as slimes / virorbs (or other piles of jelly) burst, and it will be impossible to carve. _ The insects, which have no skeletons, leave their shells after 60 minutes. _ To be naturalized, the fish must be caught first, and not killed at the bottom of the water (a boat is necessary for larger). 2) Archaeology By exploring the caves, you can find fossils. They can be presented in four forms: _ The fossilized plants _ The skeletons of extinct animals _ The fossilized shells of insect _ The remains of an extinct alien civilization You can use the first three fossils as decoration and to advance research (medicinal particles, stuff like that). You can even revive extinct life forms with a DNA machine!
YESSSSS I want to decorate my castle with the skulls and bones of my prey and those who have irritated me, it will serve as a warning none will threaten my dominion over the universe!
BONES! Amen to that: I've rolled two long-term characters in Skyrim, and both houses are COVERED in skulls and dragon bones. My nord husband hates it, he says it's such a bitch to dust them
In addition to fossils while digging, maybe in some of the caves you could find remnants of a civilization, like an obelisk or decrepit research lab that contains blueprints for better tech than you currently have.
If you like the concept of fossils, you should check out and support my post here: http://community.playstarbound.com/...ils-and-their-possibilities.8840/#post-218874
The skeletons should last a bit shorter, and to keep them, you could preserve them in some way or put skulls on stakes infront of your castle to ward of invaders. I REALLY like the archaeology, like they are unique for a group of planets which may have traded bacteria that later evolved. And also I suddenly thought of Kabuto and that other fossil in Pokémon
What I love about this idea is that it changes the whole "kill a monster and it drops random items" system used in alot of games. Not only that, but exploring planets for ancient remains is mandatory in a game like this. A few things I'd change/add, though: Make the times for rotting a little lower. 1 hour is a ridiculously long time for a game. Since Starbound uses a random generation system based on attributes and limbs already, a good idea would be to use combinations of DNA found from fossils to generate and breed creations of your own.
I really like the second half of it. I'm not too big on the hunting idea, but, it doesn't mean it's a bad idea. I'm more excited about the ancient fossils and ancient ruins. I would love to be able to explore an ancient civilizations overgrown ruins!
How about taxidermy is also implemented? When opting to do this, you have to use pretty much everything from the animal besides the meat to rebuild it, and when you have the supplies, you can rebuild it to look like a still-version of it alive. It could even have a system where, before building it, it gives you 2 or 3 possible poses for you to build it into. From there, you could put it in your house, or have it outside where it would deter the creature's prey, while luring its predators.
