I was playing and the screen went white and I died. Did I die of hunger? I know I'm supposed to get food but I don't see anything that indicates how hungry I am. Did I die of hunger? Do I need food, and if so how does the game show that?

White screen effect usually means you're dying of cold, bring along a barrel fire or camp fire to place down when that happens, stay around it until your heat meter(marked by the sun icon) fills up then take it with you.

You should see a meter pop up at the bottom of the screen every time your hunger bar goes down, which serves as a warning. I believe your hunger is reset when you die though (starts at full again). You should have gotten a quest to make a bow/hunt a monster/eat meat, so follow that to learn the game mechanics. Note that meat is not a 100% drop.

Well you do indeed need food, but you died by freezing your character need warmth at night. You can see a little bar at the bottom with a Sun symbol and a blue bar. There is a green arrow pointing left meaning your warmth is going down and to the right for it going up. If you stand by a campfire it goes up and even torches help. I find that if you are inside a cave or building with a torch you warm up faster as well. Warmth is very important it will be the first thing you die to if you're not careful.

Ok, it must have been cold. I saw the sun meter but had no idea what it meant, looked like a brightness indicator. I'll keep that in mind for next time.

I died like that as well and I wasnt sure what had happened thought i was being attacked but was down in a tunnel i dug. But makes sense now. Definitely thought the sun meter was an indicator of day/night

Yeah the "temperature meter" need some reworking to be actually clear.
You'd think the small text under it would suffice...

yes, they need to make this clearer. A better icon would do wonders. A sun isnt too clear., i thought it was some kind of light or day meter. A simple thermometer turning ice cold would help. maybe add some ice particle effects.

Similarly, they could make the same thermometer turn red hot with smoke particle effects if it gets too hot (i hope they implement dangerous heat!)
