Well - you don't actually need to farm.
You are free to find food adventuring - buy food from stores.
There are quite a few alternatives - as farming is a completely optional part of the game.

That still doesn't address some of the overpoints...

If hunger is that easily conquerable and you can just buy a ton of food to stack, is it worth keeping the system?
How does hunger affect the kind of game/story progression CF wants Starbound to go through, is it just a stalling hurdle?
Is all the work they'd have to put into making rottable crops and expanded "survival" elements and balancing that against your other gameplay progression needs worth the time (aka money) needed to do so?

I realize this. But people are discussing changes to it. I don't want to see it become a burden. I didn't have a problem with it before, except that I still found myself eating many more times in one day cycle than it seemed rational considering the day cycles are not that long.

There will probably be a mod that you can download to get the hunger system back. Then you can download the mod, and then eat to your hearts content.

I say make it an option to have hunger/temperature as an option setting on character not tied to the difficulty

There's a problem with that mentality you know. What if the mod is forgotten and no longer updated? What then genius? Not like you care.

I think it is fine either way. But, if it is put back in a I agree with Silverforte that there are ways to do it that aren't quite the pointless chore it was before it was removed.

Take it easy Darklight, no need to get angry or condescending.

The Devs will most likely add the options to alow certain factors, like hunger and thirst and such, and Mods, well, even if abandoned, we could always make more, we have a couple Modders, right?

Modding is suposedly easy, so anyone whom realy wants to can do it.

Id quite like for it o remain official and with a Hunger mechanic, but if such doesent hapen, aint too much harm done.

Modding is easy but like I said mods need maintenance and if a future patch breaks a mod there's no guarantee that person will still want to fix their mod.

If they are that easy, anyone could, since the modding is indeed easy, anyone could update it wit ease...

We shall see. It still would be safer to keep it as a feature in the game but oh well. Tourists decide games these days.

Then take up modding and ensure it stays updated? Would be a good learning experience.

How about you take up modding and remove hunger instead? Seriously the fact that you can't see this whole fiasco goes both ways is just HILARIOUS.

You and I both know I've been particularly adamant about it being added in as an optional feature by Chucklefish. Sure, I've maybe debated against its uses, but doesn't change the fact there haven't been multiple posts in multiple threads from me telling others we should push for it as an optional feature. So saying I don't see it going both ways is laughable in itself. I'm simply sharing my opinions and own thoughts on what I think about the hunger system. Chucklefish has already made steps towards removing the bar, and I doubt they'll simply up and go back with it, as there's a bit of a split in user base. So go for optional.

How is this even a discussion? This game needs more in-depth RPG style elements, not less. Keep hunger and keep me playing... Please don't stripmine this game of features we're already accustomed to and enjoying. I'm not against a nice, lengthy options menu in any game so there's potentially room for players to make this choice, but removing hunger outright would be a mistake.

Given that I'd rather have the devs build the game and not tear it down I think resources are better spent on new content. Keep hunger +1

An option for a hunger mode is fine. (server mandated, of course)
Personally, I prefer the Food Buff mode that the developers are working on than raw survival; that said, I'm not going to whine if regular "survival hunger" is left in place.
(I've played through Legend of Grimrock recently; I think I can deal with it.)

  17. Also; I wanted to say -- it's clear everyone has strong opinions about the inclusion/omission of Hunger. Whether your for or against Hunger in Starbound, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

If you want your opinion to be taken seriously as constructive feedback; be polite, informative, concise, and understanding.

I wouldn't mind having a whole bunch of survival options being put in as optional choices on character creation, to be honest.

I'll just quote one of my previous thoughts, which I think is relevant to this thread...
Dying from hunger can be an annoyance for some people, so having that under a difficulty option would be a good idea. I would suggest having the ability to die from hunger either under Normal Mode, Hard Mode, or Impossible Mode. In my opinion, if you die from hunger rather quickly I would suggest having it under Hard Mode difficulty. And dying from hunger even faster would be more suitable for Impossible Mode. I still think you should be able to die from hunger in Normal Mode, but it should take a lot longer before the hunger bar becomes empty (and keeping in mind that you can pause the hunger bar by sitting in a chair, or remaining in bed, or similar).

Other than that, I would say it should be optional.
