Hunger in Starbound also likely wouldn't be that much of a problem. It's been mentioned that it should take about two hours for hunger to deplete fully. This means that you can still do a bunch of stuff and only have to feed your face every so often.

I love that game, but man does the hunger deplete quickly.

i could see Hunger as a optinal + but i do hope freezing to death and other weather hazzards arent becuse it would be cool to find a high level planet so cold that you cant be out in the open for more then a minute before freezing to death so you will have to build a underground base :p

Not as Wolfgang X3. But yeah, the focus of the game does center around the food, not starving, and not dying :p.

  7. I'm against hunger, but it's okay as long as it's optional.:)

I hope it's always on, if you play MC before then you know once you make a potato farm, you are set for the entire time you play the game so maybe you will be able to do same thing in Starbound.

Are you kidding? I want to eat ALL the things. I wanna see my character double over as I try this yummy pink berry bush, only to discover it contains gene altering juices that transforms my character into a grotesque flesh being and then explodes into a spray of blood and body parts.

Oh I mean.. Umm.. Ponies. Yes, ponies. Colorful marshmallowy ponies.

Hunger, temperature, shelter --- gimme that survival immersion, hnnng!

I just hope it is only able to be toggled in single-player or via server settings.
Wouldn't want people on my server trying to go easy mode while everyone else is growing food and using shelter properly.

Perhaps different races only replenish hunger through race-specific foods?
I don't see Glitch and Novakids getting much out of the same food a human or Apex might nom.

I don't really care. I'll probably toggle it on and off depending on what I feel like doing.

If you can just set up farm and get food without any effort on your part then might as well just turn it off

What would be nice is different kinds of food (especially rarer/harder to make) giving different (small but noticeable) buffs, that could add some flavour (hur hur) to food system like:
    • if you are going to icy planet, get some of this hot food and some tea in thermos, it will keep you warm
    • eating coffee-flavoured cookies (or just drinking coffee) will give your attacks a bit of speed
    • there might be even some drug-like plants with both benefits and disadvantages, say "+ to attack/movement speed but your movements become jerky and you get hungry faster + when it stops working you get speed debuff"

    old news is old

also old news is that hunger is optional

there is no reason not to approve of an optional hunger system
this way, if you want a hunger system, you can have it, and if you don't, then you don't have too

personally i wish the hunger system was a bit more deep then i think its going to be
also id also like a thirst meter added too it

but whatever happens is fine too :)

Hunger is in the game simply to add a touch of realism and to increase the sense of immersion. It will hardly add any difficulty to the game as all it requires is that players carry around a stack of food with them. You can choose to turn it off because it is so trivial. Turning it off doesn't make you an "easy-moder", it just simply means you don't want to have to frequently back track to a planet with a farm or have to continually build new ones. Hunger is nothing but maintenance and farming (in the gaming sense of the word).

That being said, I will probably play with it on unless it becomes really annoying. I kind of like the idea of setting up little farms throughout the universe, building camps for cooking, and stuffing my face with cake. Hell, I might even start up a chain of bakeries.

I'm glad to hear its going to be an optional thing. That way the guys into the hardcore true-blue survival stuff can get what they want, and those looking to bound into terra incognita can do so with abandon.

    Everyone wins! :)

One of the worst things that ever happened, strictly in my opinion of course, is the addition of a hunger system to Minecraft. With all the changes and whole revamp, food also became easier than ever to obtain. So thus the whole game began to feel like a timer ticking down until I had to do replenish this bar. No depth, no gameplay that draws you in, just a boring chore and grind. When you have to stop every 15 minutes to do this repetitive task it becomes rather un-immersive thing, fast.

Now to relate this to Starbound, I do think a hunger meter could work. Having to locate food, where it would presumably be primarily located above ground, it would also double as this gameplay functionality of driving you to explore the planet's surface. (Where as say in like Terraria, most of your time was spent underground.) Given a long enough time between needing to replenish, I could see this as being as more than an immersive feature, and more along the lines of core gameplay.

I do like while adding it, they have added it to be optional.

I love the idea of hunger but most games done really do it well. Like in minecraft it's mostly just a giant chore. I really like cooking and farming mechanics and I know it's hard but I just don't want it to turn into a big chore with you just running around looking for random animals to kill and eat.

So would different races get different bonuses for eating certain things? In example like a floran would get more filled from meat than plants? Like what the lore says the diet allows. It wouldn't be fair if one race wasn't allowed to eat at all but i think it would make more sense if they get better stuff for eating what there species is used too. How do novakids eat? I probably worded this really bad but whatever.
